Job Description

As part of the Thermo Fisher Scientific team, you’ll discover meaningful work that makes a positive impact on a global scale. Join our colleagues in bringing our Mission to life every single day to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. We provide our global teams with the resources needed to achieve individual career goals while helping to take science a step beyond by developing solutions for some of the world’s toughest challenges, like protecting the environment, making sure our food is safe or helping find cures for cancer.

Role purpose

The Director will lead the Chemical Analysis Division global supply chain organization to deliver reliable customer fulfillment, disciplined working-capital performance, and scalable growth. Set direction for end-to-end planning and execution across the division, connecting demand, supply, capacity, inventory, order management, and network decisions. Build the processes, data, capabilities, and cross-functional accountability that turn supply-chain insight into measurable business outcomes.

Key responsibilities

Set division supply-chain strategy

·    Translate CAD business strategy into an integrated supply-chain roadmap, operating priorities, and resource choices; balance customer service, revenue, cost, cash, resilience, and risk.

·    Build strong partnerships with commercial, operations, finance, procurement, product management, customer service, IT, quality, and global functions.

Lead integrated planning and execution

·    Own and continually improve CAD Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP) and Sales and Operations Execution (S&OE), linking mid- and long-range plans to near-term commitments and recovery actions.

·    Advance demand planning, forecast segmentation, scenario planning, capacity modeling, and supply planning across sites and product families; ensure plans reflect constraints, lead times, and customer priorities.

·    Lead planning-system and data-readiness initiatives, including adoption of digital planning capabilities, to improve decision quality and operating consistency.

Improve customer fulfillment and order management

·    Lead end-to-end order-management and backlog processes to improve lead-time performance, promise-date accuracy, order visibility, and delivery reliability.

·    Partner with sites and customer-facing teams to identify supply risks early and drive mitigation plans for shortages, holds, capacity constraints, and demand changes.

·    Use structured performance reviews and root-cause problem solving to improve on-time delivery, order fill, service-parts availability, and the quality of customer communication.

Optimize inventory, cash, and supply risk

·    Develop an integrated inventory strategy that segments products and materials by demand, service needs, supply risk, and lifecycle stage, and sets appropriate stocking and positioning policies.

·    Balance working capital, days of supply, excess and obsolete exposure, and customer-service requirements; connect inventory decisions to SIOP, capacity, sourcing, and service outcomes.

·    Lead inventory governance, entitlement and safety-stock reviews, excess and obsolete prevention and disposition, inventory balancing, and financial forecasting in partnership with Finance and operations.

Build a high-performing, digitally capable team

·    Lead, develop, and retain a capable supply-chain team; clarify roles, build succession and functional depth, and align talent and capacity to the division roadmap.

·    Foster an inclusive, collaborative environment rooted in Thermo Fisher Scientific’s 4i Values; set clear expectations and encourage ownership, learning, and constructive challenge.

·    Embed PPI, Lean, and structured problem solving into daily work; use automation, analytics, and AI where appropriate to remove waste and improve planning and execution.

Required qualifications

·    Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, operations, business, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

·    Substantial progressive experience in supply chain, operations, or integrated business planning, including leadership responsibility in a complex, multi-site environment.

·    Demonstrated experience leading demand and supply planning, SIOP or equivalent processes, inventory strategy, order fulfillment, and cross-functional execution.

·    Experience translating business objectives into operational plans, measurable outcomes, and clear executive-level recommendations.

·    Ability to lead teams through change, build partnerships across organizational boundaries, and influence without direct authority.

·    Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, and people-leadership skills.

Preferred qualifications

·    Graduate degree or relevant professional certification in supply chain, planning, or operations.

·    Experience with ERP, advanced planning, business intelligence, and workflow automation tools; experience implementing planning technology is an advantage.

·    Experience in a global manufacturing, instrumentation, life science, or other regulated product environment.

·    Working knowledge of continuous-improvement methods such as PPI, Lean, A3, and root-cause corrective action.
