About the Opportunity

JeffreyM Consulting is partnering with an innovative, fast-growing AI technology startup to hire a Senior Software Engineer – AI Agents for its San Francisco-based engineering team.

Our client is developing cutting-edge AI agents that automate complex engineering workflows across sophisticated desktop applications used in industries such as aerospace, automotive, and advanced manufacturing.

The company has already established significant commercial traction, with thousands of users leveraging its technology in production environments and a growing portfolio of enterprise customers.

This is an opportunity to join a highly technical, entrepreneurial team and work directly with the CTO to build the core infrastructure powering intelligent, autonomous software agents.

Prior experience building AI agents is not required. We're looking for engineers with exceptional computer science fundamentals, strong production software engineering experience, and genuine curiosity about agentic AI systems.

What You'll Do

- Design and build core AI agent infrastructure, including tool-calling, state management, context management, model routing, and error recovery across complex, multi-step workflows.
- Develop robust, production-quality software that interacts with sophisticated desktop engineering applications in enterprise environments.
- Optimize system performance, latency, reliability, and cost efficiency, including token usage and workflow execution.
- Build evaluation frameworks and reproducible benchmarks to measure agent performance, reliability, and task completion.
- Collaborate with AI engineers, researchers, and domain experts to translate real-world customer needs into scalable technical solutions.
- Troubleshoot complex engineering challenges involving concurrency, application integration, and failure handling.
- Contribute to technical architecture, code reviews, and engineering best practices while working closely with product teams and customers.
