About this role
At Leidos, we deliver innovative solutions through the efforts of our diverse and talented people dedicated to our customers' success. We empower our teams, contribute to our communities, and operate sustainably. Our Mission, Vision, and Values guide how we do business.
The Mission Enablement Center (MDEC) is seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to support its Cloud Engineering team. This hands-on position supports the design, deployment, automation, security, and sustainment of cloud and hybrid infrastructure across Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
The selected candidate will support multiple federal and Department of Defense (DoD) programs, including MDEC's InSight Mission Cloud offering, by developing secure, scalable, and repeatable cloud solutions. The role requires a strong technical background in cloud engineering, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), DevSecOps, automation, containerization, and cloud operations.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can work independently, manage multiple technical priorities, troubleshoot complex issues, collaborate with customers and vendors, and mentor junior engineers while supporting mission-critical environments.
Primary Responsibilities
- Cloud Engineering: Design, deploy, configure, and sustain secure cloud and hybrid infrastructure across AWS, Azure, OCI, and GCP, including compute, networking, storage, identity, and supporting platform services.
- DevOps and Automation: Develop, implement, and maintain Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using GitLab, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar tools to support automated infrastructure and application deployments.
- Infrastructure as Code: Develop and maintain reusable Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, and other automation solutions to standardize cloud deployments, configuration management, and infrastructure provisioning.
- Containerization: Deploy, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain containerized applications and orchestration platforms, including Docker, Kubernetes, and related cloud-native technologies.
- Cloud Security and Compliance: Implement secure cloud configurations, access controls, encryption, vulnerability remediation, and automated security scanning aligned with NIST, FedRAMP, DoD STIGs, and applicable federal security requirements.
- Cloud Operations and Sustainment: Support day-to-day cloud operations, infrastructure maintenance, patching, performance monitoring, incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis to maintain reliable and secure environments.
- Cloud Modernization: Support cloud migrations, landing zone deployments, application modernization, virtualization, and hybrid cloud integration across customer environments.
- Monitoring and Logging: Configure and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions using cloud-native services and enterprise tools such as CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK.
- Technical Documentation: Develop architecture diagrams, deployment procedures, automation scripts, operational runbooks, and technical documentation to support repeatable engineering and operational sustainment.
- Technical Leadership and Mentorship: Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, participate in engineering reviews, support troubleshooting efforts, and contribute to continuous improvement of cloud engineering standards and practices.
Required Experience, Skills, and Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline with 12++ years of relevant experience, or a master's degree with 10+ years of experience. Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience designing, deploying, administering, and supporting cloud infrastructure in AWS, Azure, OCI, or GCP, with strong proficiency in at least two major cloud platforms.
- Demonstrated experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, or equivalent technologies.
- Hands-on experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms.
- Experience deploying and managing containerized applications using Docker, Kubernetes, or equivalent container orchestration platforms.
- Strong understanding of cloud networking, including Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs), virtual networks, subnets, routing, firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, and network security controls.
- Experience supporting Linux and Windows Server environments, including system administration, patching, troubleshooting, and secure configuration.
- Proficiency with scripting and automation using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar languages.
- Knowledge of cloud security, identity and access management, vulnerability management, encryption, logging, monitoring, and secure infrastructure design.
- Experience troubleshooting complex cloud infrastructure, networking, application, and platform issues in production environments.
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools such as AWS CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work directly with customers, technical teams, vendors, and program leadership.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, support multiple programs, and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
Clearance Required
- Active DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance, or an active Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain SCI eligibility prior to the start date.
- Ability to complete any additional investigations or security requirements associated with assigned programs.
Preferred Experience, Skills, and Certifications
- Experience supporting DoD, or other federal government cloud environments.
- Experience with AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, OCI Government, or other regulated cloud environments supporting DoD Impact Levels (IL4, IL5, or IL6).
- Experience supporting enterprise cloud platforms, shared services, multi-cloud environments, or managed cloud offerings.
- Experience with cloud landing zones, cloud migration, infrastructure modernization, and hybrid cloud architectures.
- Familiarity with the Risk Management Framework (RMF), Authority to Operate (ATO) processes, NIST SP 800-53, FedRAMP, and DISA STIG requirements.
- Experience with cloud security tools such as Tenable, Prisma Cloud, Wiz, AWS Security Hub, GuardDuty, AWS Config, or equivalent technologies.
- Experience supporting technical solution development, cloud architecture reviews, Bills of Materials (BOMs), Rough Orders of Magnitude (ROMs), or proposal activities.
- Experience conducting technical briefings, design reviews, and customer-facing engineering discussions.
