About this role

About the Team
On the Mobile team, the goal is to give sellers everything they need to work their pipeline when they're away from their desk. Our Android app brings Outreach tasks, calling, email, SMS, meetings, conversation recordings, forecasting and Ask Outreach, our AI assistant, to Android phones. It's a Kotlin codebase built with Jetpack Compose, Hilt, Coroutines and Flow, Room, WorkManager and Apollo GraphQL, with real-time voice through Twilio and Android's Telecom framework. It ships to enterprise customers on a regular release train.

As our Staff Android Engineer, you'll lead the technical direction of the Android app. You'll shape its architecture and design system, build the testing and release foundations, and own complex features from design to Google Play. The visibility of the work is immense. We have plenty of tough challenges which require creative minds like yours to help us solve!

Your Daily Adventures Will Include

- Partnering with mobile product managers, designers to deeply understand the needs of sellers on the go and build a product that serves those needs

- Setting technical direction for the Android app: a clear UI, domain and data layering, a Navigation strategy, and breaking large classes and the single app module into well-defined feature and core modules

- Building a Jetpack Compose design system on Material 3, with theming, dark mode and accessibility built in

- Owning complex features end to end, such as voice calling with Twilio Voice, ConnectionService and FCM, real-time SMS, background uploads with WorkManager, and media playback

- Leading our GraphQL client work on Apollo Kotlin, including the move to Apollo Kotlin 4 and a deliberate caching strategy

- Building the Android delivery foundations: version catalogs, R8 and baseline profiles, unit, Compose UI and screenshot tests in CI, and Google Play release automation with staged rollouts

- Making sure the app is observable and issues are easy to diagnose, through deobfuscated crash reports, structured logging and release-health dashboards

- Keeping the app current with Android platform changes, such as target SDK requirements, notification permissions, foreground service types and edge-to-edge

- Owning relationships with other engineering teams, such as Voice, Identity and iOS, and collaborating with other functions within Outreach

Basic Qualifications

- 6+ years of professional software development experience, with 4+ years building Android apps in Kotlin

- Expert knowledge of Jetpack Compose, including state hoisting, theming and performance

- Strong command of Kotlin Coroutines and Flow, Hilt and the Android app architecture guidance (ViewModel, repositories, unidirectional data flow)

- Proven success shipping and operating apps on Google Play: signing, the Play Console, staged rollouts and Android vitals

- Experience with networking and auth on Android: GraphQL or REST clients, OAuth/OIDC (e.g. AppAuth) and the Android Keystore

- Solid testing practice with JUnit, MockK or similar, Robolectric, and Compose UI tests

- Proven senior technical leadership: setting direction for a team, breaking down quarter-long projects and delivering them

- Android Telecom (ConnectionService), Twilio Voice or foreground services (plus)

- Microsoft Intune App SDK and MSAL (plus)

- Gradle build engineering: convention plugins, modularization, build performance (plus)
