About this role
What’s in it for you?
Optical Assistant / Trainee Optical Assistant – Ladybrook Opticians, Bramhall
Ladybrook Opticians is an independent optician in Bramhall, Stockport. We are looking for a full time Optical Assistant to work across the whole of a patient's visit: welcoming them in, running the pre-screening tests before their examination, supporting the optometrist, and helping with their glasses afterwards.
If you have worked in optics before, that helps. If you have not, we will train you. What matters more is care, reliability, and being comfortable talking to people
You will also receive:
● Full training, and ongoing development after that
● Company pension
● Staff eyewear and discounts
● Access to Hakim Group benefits
● Free parking
● A small, settled team in an independent practice
About the Role
What the role involves
● Welcoming patients, and booking and managing appointments by phone and at the desk
● Phoning patients to help them arrange their next appointment
● Running pre-screening before each examination – OCT, Optomap retinal imaging and visual fields – accurately and consistently
● Preparing patients for their examination and putting them at ease
● Supporting the optometrist during clinic
● Helping with dispensing, adjustments and repairs, and learning to dispense if you do not already
● Keeping the front of the practice running smoothly day to day
This role will suit someone who:
● May have optical, retail or customer service experience, but does not need to
● Is comfortable speaking with patients and good at putting them at ease
● Takes care over detail and accuracy, particularly in pre-screening, where the measurements matter
● Is organised and reliable, and takes responsibility without being asked
● Gets involved rather than waiting to be told
● Wants to learn, and to build a long-term role in a small team
Success in this role looks like this: patients feel welcomed and looked after, pre-screening is accurate every time, the front of practice runs smoothly, and the team can rely on you.
Training and development
Full training is provided by Shannon, our practice manager. It covers reception and the CRM (Optix), each of the pre-screening instruments, and in time, dispensing. You will not be left to work it out on your own.
We have a track record of developing people in-house. For the right person there is scope to take on more responsibility over time.
