The Sales Associate promotes a culture of safety, hospitality, service, honor, and respect among our homeless guests, our staff, and volunteers, for the purpose of furthering the vision and mission of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
CityThrift Sales Associates are responsible for operating the Point of Sales register, assisting customers, stocking and maintaining inventory of merchandise, and assisting in maintaining the store in a clean and orderly manner. Provides a high level of customer service to store customers, working to ensure a positive purchasing experience. Must present a positive, professional image.
Essential functions
- Perform all day to day operational functions of the store (run register, write sold tickets, and receipts, stock shelves, counters, tables, hang garments, sell merchandise, rotate goods, assist customers).
- Provide customers with excellent service.
- Perform cashier duties: operate cash register, handle sales transactions, payments, refunds and end of day register processing.
- Maintain accountability for proper register balances and for unauthorized removal of any merchandise from the store.
- Stock, straighten, and clean the sales floor, shelves, counters, and tables.
- Remove empty hangers and outdated merchandise from sales floor according to rotation schedule.
- Remove clothes from fitting rooms and re-hang as necessary.
- Transport items to and from sales floor.
- Adhere to store attendance policy.
- Alert supervisor of unsafe practices or situations. Continually support the agency safety program and contribute to customer and employee safety. Assist in ensuring that the building is locked and secure prior to leaving each evening.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required education and experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1 year work in retail environment with sales register experience
- Ability to operate Point of Sale system software, and receive and disperse cash accurately
- Demonstrated, excellent customer service skills
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with diverse populations
- Good verbal/written communication skills
- Ability to read and perform simple mathematical functions at the high school level
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and be flexible in multi-duty environment
