Job Description

We are seeking a Junior Software Developer to join the IntelePACS Backend team and help deliver backend capabilities for Intelerad's enterprise medical imaging platform. The team is building toward an AI-first way of working, where agentic coding tools are a core part of how we deliver. In this role, you will grow your skills under the guidance of senior developers, build deep knowledge of the IntelePACS domain and medical imaging workflows, and learn to apply AI-assisted development responsibly within a regulated healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, test, and document well-scoped backend features and fixes under the guidance of senior developers, following Intelerad's regulated SDLC.

- Build working knowledge of IntelePACS components and medical imaging workflows, progressively taking ownership of assigned areas.

- Participate in code reviews, incorporating feedback, and contribute to the team's automated test coverage and CI/CD pipeline.

- Investigate and resolve defects and security findings in assigned components, escalating issues when appropriate.

- Use agentic coding tools as part of daily development, learning when to delegate work to an agent, when to write code directly, and how to verify the results.

- Follow the team's review, testing, traceability, and change-control practices for all contributions, including AI-assisted code, ensuring compliance obligations are met.

- Collaborate with team members and cross-functional teams on functionality and technical design, and provide accurate updates on task progress.

- Proactively seek learning opportunities, ask questions, and share what you learn with the team.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience

- 1 to 3 years of professional experience developing commercial software.

- Solid foundation in Java and object-oriented programming, with an interest in multi-threaded and distributed systems.

- Familiarity with Linux/UNIX, relational databases and SQL (ideally PostgreSQL), and REST APIs.

- Exposure to automated unit testing and Git version control.

- Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants or agentic tools in academic, personal, or professional projects.

- Awareness that AI-generated code can be plausible but wrong, and a habit of reviewing, testing, and understanding code before submitting it.

- Strong desire to learn, with good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in an Agile/Scrum team.

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications & Special Requirements

- Experience working in a large, established production codebase.

- A portfolio of projects, such as on GitHub, demonstrating your development and AI-assisted engineering work.

- Interest in healthcare technology: DICOM, HL7, FHIR, or medical imaging.

- Exposure to regulated or quality-managed development environments.

- Familiarity with AWS or containers such as Docker.

- Exposure to CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins.

- C++, Perl, or shell scripting.
