About this role

Magic Spoon reimagines your childhood breakfast favorites with more protein, less sugar, and more fun. Since launching in 2019, we've brought our unbelievably tasty cereal to over one million customers online and over 20,000 stores nationwide. With our recently launched Protein Oatmeal and Protein Granola, we're continuing to find new ways to make mornings magical, all made possible by our incredible team.

The role

Magic Spoon is visually loud by design. We're hiring a Director of Creative and Comms to make us culturally louder, buzzier, and harder to ignore, and to own how the brand looks and sounds everywhere it shows up: social, design, influencers, affiliates, PR, and earned media.

The goal isn't just reach, impressions, or transactions. It's a brand people want to talk about, share, follow, and be associated with. Design, social, creators, and PR are one engine here, an

This is a working manager role, not a strategy-deck role. You'll come up with the idea, set the creative direction, and you'll be hands on as well, helping create the social post that has to go out in two hours, the launch graphic, or the big scrappy idea to test and learn.

You'll report to our CMO and lead a team of three: our Graphic Designer, our Social Media Manager, and a third role that you'll help shape as the team grows.

What you'll own

- Lead creative and make the work, in partnership with our Graphic Designer: design the social post, write the copy, build the PR kit.
- Art direct the team and keep everything unmistakably Magic Spoon.
- Ideation - Come up with big ideas and scrappy ones, and know which moment calls for which.
- Lead and grow a team of three: Graphic Designer, Social Media Manager, and one open role.
- Run social with the Social Media Manager: formats, trends, fast reactions.
- Own PR and earned media, including our agency partner.
- Build our influencer and affiliate network.
- Spot what's happening in culture and turn it into things we can do fast.
- Partner with Brand & Innovation and Growth on the marketing calendar.
- Manage freelancers and external partners. Own the creative budget.

Requirements

- Hands-on graphic design skills, with a portfolio. This is a must. You'll lead creative in close partnership with our Graphic Designer: shaping ideas together, art directing the work, and designing yourself too, from quick-turn social to big launch moments. Your portfolio should include work you made, not just work you directed.
- 8-10+ years across social, communications, influencer, PR, creative, or brand marketing, including at least 3 years managing people, not just projects.
- Experience running a team as a working manager: setting direction and still doing a meaningful share of the work yourself.
- A track record of making a brand feel culturally alive. You can point to work you led that broke through, got people talking, or changed how people saw a brand.
- Sharp creative judgment, and the taste to know the difference between being part of culture and trying too hard.
- Experience leading PR and earned media, directly or through agency partners.
- Experience building influencer and creator programs that go beyond paid one-offs.
- Comfort moving fast with imperfect information. You'd rather try ten smart, scrappy things than spend months polishing one big bet.
- A real point of view on internet culture, social platforms, creators, and what makes people want to share something.
- Strong collaborator instincts. This role only works if you're plugged into Brand, Growth, and the wider business.

Nice to have

- Experience in food, beverage, or CPG, especially at a challenger or DTC-native brand.
- Motion, video editing, or short-form content skills (After Effects, Premiere, CapCut).
- Based in NYC.
- A personal social presence or point of view that shows you live in the culture you're being hired to tap into.

Benefits

- Competitive salary & equity
- Bonus eligibility
- 100% covered Health, Vision, Dental insurance (50% covered for dependents)
- 401(k) with company match
- Generous parental leave
- Flexible vacation
- Paid company holidays
- Paid sick leave
- Catered lunch in office
- Dog friendly office
- Unlimited cereal ✨ 🥣
