About this role
Description
Large Loss Field Team Manager
When a fire, flood or storm leaves a family unable to stay in their own home, your team shows up. As a Large Loss Field Team Manager, you lead five to eight large loss property field specialists who investigate, scope and resolve Liberty Mutual's most complex, high-exposure property claims. You coach them, help them grow and work beside them at the loss site in the markets they serve, so every customer has someone who knows exactly what to do next.
Location and travel We'd love to have you in Liberty Lake. If you're based elsewhere in the Northwest, we want to hear from you too. Your team works across local markets throughout the Northwest territories, and you'll be out there with them. This role requires travel up to 50% so you can spend time in the field with your team members in their local markets.
What you'll do
- Grow a team that grows others. Lead your field representatives and specialists toward accurate, timely resolutions on complex, high-exposure claims. Create stretch opportunities that help each person build new skills, and develop your senior specialists into technical mentors for the broader property team and backups who can lead when you're out.
- Lead from the loss site. Travel up to 50% to work alongside your team in their local markets. Join inspections, watch how losses are scoped and appraised, and coach on the spot on coverage decisions for dwellings and other structures.
- Stay close to the work. Review files to confirm coverage is determined correctly, reserving recommendations are adequately reported and claims keep moving. Spot problem trends early, act to stop them from coming back and escalate when needed. Keep asking how the work could get simpler and better.
- Make the customer experience personal. Build empathy and passion for the people behind every claim. Make sure your team walks policyholders through their coverage, damage itemization, emergency repairs and additional living arrangements in a way that meets or exceeds what they expect.
- Strengthen our contractor and vendor network. Oversee how your team works with Liberty's network contractors through the appraisal process, and with emergency repair crews, cleaning services and replacement providers, to keep recovery moving. Hold Liberty-referred contractors and independents to our standards through certification and re-inspection.
- Protect the integrity of every claim. Coach your team to recognize suspicious losses, make sound SIU referrals and support SIU investigations.
- Lead through catastrophe. When a CAT event hits, help mobilize and support your team in CAT operations, oversee quality control on independent adjusters and take the lead on high-profile cases.
- Build your bench. Help select top talent, coach continuously, and recognize and reward the behaviors that deliver service excellence.
- Step in where it counts. Resolve the customer complaints, problems and coverage questions your team can't, including negotiations on your most complex losses. Work with policyholders, the business community, government agencies and internal partners to meet regulatory and company standards.
- Carry your team's story forward. Advocate for the goals of the large loss property team and keep them aligned with the broader claims organization.
Ideal Experience Includes
- Large loss expertise: 4+ years handling large loss property claims, including in-person inspections, independent scoping and dwelling appraisals. Prior contracting experience is a plus.
- Technical depth: Advanced knowledge of claims handling procedures and homeowner policy coverages, with a track record on claims of the highest complexity and exposure. Advanced property training completed.
- Leadership: Able to lead and coach teams by giving clear feedback, coaching one on one and helping people grow.
- Leading change and culture: Experienced at guiding teams through transitions, promoting a growth mindset and building a positive, accountable team culture that encourages learning and continuous improvement.
- Judgment and negotiation: Strong negotiation skills and sound independent judgment on high-exposure decisions.
- Catastrophe experience: Experience supporting CAT operations, including quality control on independent adjusters.
