The Senior Manager, Accounts Payable is responsible for the day-to-day operational leadership of the enterprise's Accounts Payable function, with a strong ability to foster relationships at all levels by establishing and working collaboratively with other teams and business partners. This role is a key driver of AP centralization across the enterprise, standardizing processes and systems, including the transition to Workday, to support new and existing programs and systems initiatives, ensure compliance with regulations, and drive continuous process improvement across a multi-entity, global vendor base.
Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
- Accountable for the financial integrity of Accounts Payable; establish, implement, and continuously improve AP policies, programs, and processes, incorporating industry best practices, to ensure consistent, high-quality, accurate, compliant, and efficient operations across the enterprise.
- Establish and implement systems to support regulatory and compliance audits; serve as the key AP lead working with IT to develop, test, and roll out new systems and upgrades to existing systems, including migration to and optimization of Workday.
- Own AP tax and regulatory compliance, including 1099 and 1042-S information reporting and backup withholding requirements across domestic and global vendors, partnering with Vendor Maintenance on W-9/W-8BEN collection and validation; monitor and stay current on regulatory changes affecting AP compliance and update processes accordingly.
- Own escheatment and unclaimed property compliance for Accounts Payable, including identification, reporting, and remittance of unclaimed vendor payments in accordance with applicable state requirements.
- Ensure vendor accounts are regularly reconciled against vendor statements, with aging and open items reviewed and resolved timely; oversee resolution of vendor disputes and discrepancies.
- Optimize working capital and cash flow through effective management of payment timing, terms, and early payment/vendor discount programs, balancing vendor relationships with enterprise cash flow objectives.
- Lead and develop the Accounts Payable team, overseeing the end-to-end payment process, including vendor invoices and employee expense reimbursement settlement, and managing direct report staff to complete projects according to program objectives and key performance indicators.
- Partner with Supply Chain/Procurement on purchase order matching and exception resolution, ensuring three-way match discrepancies are identified, root-caused, and resolved efficiently.
- Drive centralization of Accounts Payable operations across the enterprise, standardizing processes, systems, and controls to reduce redundancy and increase consistency across business units.
- Champion automation and technology adoption within Accounts Payable, including invoice capture, workflow approvals, and exception handling, to increase touchless processing and reduce manual effort.
- Define, track, and report on AP performance KPIs (e.g., invoice processing time, touchless/straight-through processing rate, on-time payment rate, exception rate, days payable outstanding) and other ad hoc financial and operational reporting, using performance data and analytics to drive accountability, measure impact, and guide continuous improvement and investment decisions.
- Maintain a strong working understanding of how Accounts Payable activity impacts the balance sheet and account reconciliations, partnering with the Accounting organization to ensure AP subledger activity is properly recorded, reconciled, and reflected in the close.
- Analyze complex payment transactions, identify root causes of issues in partnership with internal operational teams, assess risk, and implement mitigation plans to minimize or eliminate future occurrences.
- Establish and sustain strong, collaborative relationships internally and with external vendors and partners, providing clear and consistent communication of key business priorities and status updates on major initiatives.
- Manage a high degree of change in a fast-paced, complex, and demanding environment.
