About this role
Your role in our mission
We are looking for an engineering leader dedicated to fostering people growth, platform advancement and organization development. You'll lead one of the teams that build Prosper's credit card and personal loan experiences. Our teams own customer-facing web and mobile apps, card products, payments, the shared platforms our products run on, and the tools and AI/ML systems that support our customer service operations.
You'll guide your team in the design, development, and delivery of high-quality software that meets business objectives. You'll foster a collaborative and innovative environment, mentor engineers, manage project execution, and ensure the adoption of engineering best practices. The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Above all other factors, we are looking for smart, driven candidates who want to be part of a culture of innovation and creativity as we lead within the fintech and marketplace lending industry.
How you'll make an impact
- Lead and mentor a scrum team of 6-10 software engineers
- Oversee the full software development lifecycle for your team's projects, from planning and design through deployment and maintenance
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and other stakeholders to define project scope, requirements, and timelines, ensuring alignment with product vision and business goals
- Drive project execution, monitor progress, identify and mitigate risks, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality software releases
- Own the quality and safety of what your team ships: automated testing, rigorous code review, and controlled rollouts (feature flags, staged releases) so changes reach production safely
- Champion operational excellence through robust monitoring and observability, leading proactive incident management, and ensuring swift resolution of production issues to meet best-in-class standards
- Guide your team in modernizing the systems it owns, retiring legacy services and technical debt while continuing to deliver, and moving toward scalable, reliable, cloud-native architecture
- Lead your team's adoption of AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor) to raise productivity and quality, with clear practices for code review, security, and data privacy
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance team culture that encourages innovation and continuous improvement
- Communicate effectively with team members, peers, and leadership regarding project status, technical challenges, and team performance
- Actively contribute to quarterly and sprint planning to develop actionable, high-quality roadmaps
Skills that will help you thrive
- Bachelors/Masters degree in Computer Science or related field
- 3+ years of technical management experience
- 3+ years of working experience with remote teams
- 8+ years of hands-on engineering experience, with depth in either back end (e.g. Java/Spring Boot) or front end (e.g. React/GraphQL) and working fluency in the other
- Experience managing teams that deliver both back-end services and customer-facing web or mobile experiences
- Proven track record of creating and managing high performing teams
- Excellent project management skills, with experience using tools like Jira
- Demonstrated creative problem solving and analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to make sound technical decisions and effectively guide teams through complex technical challenges
Extra credit
- Experience with cloud platforms (GCP highly preferred) and distributed systems
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools and leading teams that adopt them
- Experience with modern monitoring, logging, and observability tools
- Strong understanding of software architecture principles, including microservices and cloud-native design
- A growth mindset with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement
