Job Description:

Job Summary

The Ring Grinder is responsible for operating and maintaining grinding equipment used to process aluminum can ends or body maker rings to precise specifications. This role ensures that tooling components are accurately sized, defect-free, and ready for use in high‑speed can manufacturing equipment. The Ring Grinder supports production efficiency by preparing components that meet strict safety, quality, and dimensional standards.

Key Responsibilities

· Operate ring‑grinding machinery, lathes, and measurement tools to grind and finish rings used in can body makers or end‑making equipment.

· Adjust machine settings to achieve required tolerances, surface finishes, and dimensional specifications.

· Inspect tooling components before and after grinding to identify wear, deformation, or imperfections.

· Use precision measurement instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges, comparators) to verify accuracy of ground rings.

· Document measurements, tolerances, and quality outcomes according to plant standards.

· Ensure tooling meets all safety and production specifications before release to maintenance or production teams.

· Perform routine cleaning and minor maintenance of grinding machines and associated tooling.

· Identify and report equipment issues requiring technician intervention.

· Follow all safety protocols related to rotating equipment, aluminum dust handling, PPE, and lockout/tagout (LOTO).

· Collaborate with mechanics, tooling technicians, and production operators to ensure timely delivery of prepared rings.

· Maintain accurate inventory of rings, tooling components, and grinding supplies.

· Support continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling performance, grinding efficiency, and scrap reduction

Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Prior experience in a manufacturing, machining, or precision equipment environment.

· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.

· Proficiency with measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.).

· Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with grinding or machining processes.

· Experience in aluminum can manufacturing, metal forming, or high‑speed production preferred.

· Knowledge of can body maker or end‑making tooling components preferred.

· Prior training in LOTO, machine safety, or industrial hygiene preferred.

Work Environment

- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
- Manual dexterity for handling small precision components.
- Ability to work in a production environment with noise, vibration, and aluminum dust (PPE provided).
- Fast‑paced industrial manufacturing facility.
- Exposure to rotating machinery, metalworking equipment, and airborne metal particles.
- Use of PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and respirators as required.
