Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced CNC Programmer to support advanced machining operations. This position will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and implementing CNC programs for complex machining applications, including large turning, milling, and multi-axis mill-turn operations.
The ideal candidate will have experience programming and supporting 2 axis turret lathes, millturn machines, vertical lathes with live tooling, and 3 axis milling centers. Strong working knowledge of Siemens CNC controls, Siemens NX CAM software, and Siemens ShopMill and ShopTurn programming environments are highly desired.
This individual will work closely with manufacturing engineering, machining personnel, and production leadership to improve machining processes, maximize machine utilization, improve productivity, and ensure quality standards are consistently met.
The CNC Programmer will play an important role in supporting the facility's advanced machining capabilities. This position requires more than simply generating CNC programs. The successful candidate must understand the entire machining process, from engineering models and NX programming through machine setup, prove-out, and production.
The ability to develop efficient programs using NX CAM, work directly with Siemens controls, utilize ShopMill and ShopTurn, and support machinists on the shop floor will be critical to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, create, and optimize CNC programs using Siemens NX CAM software.
- Program complex machining operations for Lathes, multitask machines, and milling centers.
- Utilize Siemens CNC controls, including ShopMill and ShopTurn, for programming, editing, troubleshooting, and optimizing machining operations.
- Develop and modify programs directly at machine control when necessary.
- Develop multi-axis machining strategies for complex components, including shafts, rotor cores, and other precision-machined products.
- Interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, GD&T requirements, and manufacturing specifications.
- Determine appropriate machining methods, tooling, cutting parameters, and machining sequences.
- Develop efficient tool paths to minimize cycle times while maintaining dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements.
- Support machine setups, prove-outs, first-piece inspections, and production launches.
- Troubleshoot programming, tooling, and machining issues on the shop floor.
- Collaborate with machinists, manufacturing engineers, and production supervisors to resolve machining challenges.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, cycle-time reduction, and improved machine efficiency.
- Maintain accurate CNC programs, tooling documentation, and manufacturing process records.
- Provide technical support and guidance to CNC operators and machining personnel.
Required Qualifications:
- Technical degree, machining certification, or equivalent combination of education and experience as a CNC Programmer in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Siemens NX CAM programming software.
- Experience programming CNC lathes, multi-axis machining centers, and mill-turn equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and 3D models.
- Strong understanding of machining processes, cutting tools, workholding, and machining parameters.
- Knowledge of GD&T, tolerances, and precision machining requirements.
- Ability to troubleshoot and optimize CNC programs and machining processes.
- 5 to 7 years of experience
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
