Job Details

The Ambulatory Infusion Clinical Sales Liaison drives referrals to Loyola Medicine’s ambulatory infusion offerings, calling primarily on Loyola practices and also assisting with external referrals. The Liaison supports both ambulatory and home infusion, helping match each patient to the right site of care. The Liaison guides each referred patient from order to first chair-time and is the primary point of contact between referring clinicians and practice staff, hospital case management, patients and caregivers, and the infusion center team.

The role combines clinical judgment, to assess whether a patient is appropriate for outpatient infusion, with consultative sales skills, to build and sustain referral relationships across Loyola Medical Group, the Loyola hospitals and specialty clinics. The Liaison also supports community and other external practices with referrals, and works closely with infusion nurses, pharmacists, referral hub staff, and operations leaders to improve access, patient experience and clinical outcomes.

Location : Onsite in Maywood, IL supporting surrounding Loyola locations

Responsibilities:

The Liaison’s core responsibility is to expand the ambulatory infusion program by turning clinical relationships into appropriate, well-prepared referrals, with a primary focus on Loyola practices and support for external referrals.

Referral development and program growth :

- Grow ambulatory infusion volume by calling on Loyola Medical Group and Loyola specialty practices, educating physicians, advanced practice providers, practice managers and clinic staff on the program’s services, therapies, sites and benefits.

- Build and maintain strong consultative relationships with Loyola Medical Group and Loyola specialty practices (for example gastroenterology, rheumatology, neurology, dermatology, oncology and hematology), hospital case management, and patient placement and flow teams.

- Partner with case managers and patient flow navigators to promote and encourage referrals of eligible inpatients and ED patients to ambulatory infusion at discharge.

- Develop and execute a call plan that prioritizes Loyola practices, with defined targets for referral volume, new referring providers and chair utilization; track activity and results in the CRM or reporting tool.

- Identify gaps in access, such as long wait times, site capacity or therapies not yet offered, and bring market feedback and growth opportunities to infusion leadership.

External referrals

- Assist external practices and community providers with referrals: explain how to refer, confirm that orders and clinical information are complete, and coordinate intake with the infusion center.

- Respond promptly to inbound external referral requests, and keep external offices informed of status, start dates and outcomes.

- Share external referral trends and access needs with infusion leadership so outreach beyond Loyola can be prioritized.

Home infusion

- Partner with the home infusion program to identify patients better suited to infusion at home than in a center, and coordinate their transition from hospital or clinic to home infusion.

- Assess home suitability, including home environment, caregiver support, venous access and therapy.

- Educate patients and caregivers in person on home infusion, gather pre-admission information, and facilitate service initiation with the home infusion pharmacy and nursing team.

- Promote home infusion alongside ambulatory infusion with physicians, case managers and patient flow navigators, and guide site-of-care decisions between the two services.

Clinical assessment and patient suitability

- Collaborate with providers to identify appropriate candidates for ambulatory infusion therapy.

- Conduct patient assessments and chart reviews to determine clinical suitability, including diagnosis, ordered therapy, venous access, prior reaction history and site-of-care criteria.

- Escalate clinical questions to the infusion pharmacist, nurse manager or medical director, and ensure orders are complete and appropriate before scheduling.

Intake, access and onboarding

- Coordinate referrals with the referral hub, which handles benefits verification, prior authorization and intake processing, so patients start therapy without avoidable delay.

- Partner with the referral hub to hand off complete referrals, resolve open items and track each patient through onboarding to first treatment.

- Provide dedicated support for enrolling patients in the program, and communicate with the infusion center or home infusion team so labs, pre-medications and other pre-visit requirements are in place. Nursing scheduling is handled by those teams.

- Gather pre-admission information, and educate patients and caregivers in person, by phone or by video on what to expect before, during and after infusion.

- Follow referrals through to completion: close the loop with the referring office on start dates, delays and outcomes, and check in with patients and caregivers so their experience is positive from referral through first treatment, resolving or escalating any concerns.

Education and resource role

- Develop, refine and deliver educational materials tailored to clinical teams, referring offices and patients.

- Serve as a knowledgeable resource for clinical and logistical questions about infusion services, therapies and referral workflows.

- Present at departmental meetings, grand rounds, lunch-and-learns and community events as appropriate.

Compliance and professionalism

- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and proprietary information in accordance with HIPAA, Trinity Health policy and all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

- Conduct all outreach in compliance with healthcare marketing, anti-kickback and Stark rules, and hospital policy on vendor and referral-source interactions.

- Support Loyola Medicine’s mission, values and patient experience standards in every interaction.

Education:

The role requires a licensed clinician (Registered Nurse) with infusion or specialty-practice experience and the communication skills to build referral relationship. Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois.  3+ years of clinical experience as an RN in an ambulatory infusion center, oncology or specialty infusion setting, home infusion, or a relevant specialty practice. 2+ years in clinical sales, business development, physician liaison or clinical outreach

Skills and Knowledge:

- Strong working knowledge of infusion therapies, including biologics, immunoglobulins, iron, hydration, antibiotics and chemotherapy support, plus vascular access and infusion reaction management.
- Knowledge of site-of-care and health system referral processes; knowledge of home health and home infusion regulations is preferred.

- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills, with the ability to teach and influence clinical and non-clinical audiences.

- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple referrals, accounts and deadlines at once.

- Self-directed, relationship-driven and comfortable carrying sales goals and metrics; proficient in Epic or a comparable EHR, CRM tools and Microsoft Office.

- Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, case managers and referral hub staff, and to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
