Job Description:

Leads a strategic product management function responsible for defining, building, and bringing to market HPE’s Storage as a Service offering. Operates with broad ownership across product strategy, business model, product definition, market positioning, customer experience, and go-to-market execution.

This leader will act with a general manager mindset, working across product management, engineering, marketing, sales, services, operations, customer success, finance, and other organizations to establish and scale a differentiated, outcomes-based storage service. The role requires the ability to move seamlessly from strategy and business considerations to technical product definition and execution.

The Senior Director will help define the MVP and roadmap while driving an aggressive path to market. The role will initially lead a small, focused team while influencing resources and priorities across the broader Hybrid Cloud and HPE organizations.

Responsibilities

- Define and drive the end-to-end strategy for HPE’s Storage as a Service offering, including the product vision, value proposition, target customer outcomes, service levels, business model, MVP, roadmap, and path to market.

- Lead the development of an outcomes-based storage consumption model designed around customer requirements, SLAs/SLOs, service levels, consumption, performance, and capacity rather than a traditional hardware-first approach.

- Operate with a GM-style ownership mindset, driving the full product lifecycle across strategy, business definition, product management, technical requirements, cross-functional execution, market introduction, and ongoing evolution of the offering.

- Define the initial minimum viable product and launch roadmap, balancing speed to market with the need to deliver a compelling and differentiated customer offering.

- Partner closely with core storage product management and engineering teams to translate service requirements into underlying platform capabilities, including areas such as multi-tenancy, capacity expansion, non-disruptive technology transitions, performance management, and service-level flexibility.

- Work across HPE to develop an integrated customer experience, partnering with GreenLake organizations and other teams on capabilities such as cloud management, metering, billing, financing, operational support, and service delivery.

- Drive cross-functional alignment across engineering, marketing, sales, go-to-market, customer and partner engagement, services, supply chain/operations, customer success, and financial services to establish the capabilities required to launch and scale the business.

- Build and lead a focused product organization that initially includes product management and technical marketing engineering resources, while providing broader leadership and direction to program management and engineering resources supporting the Storage as a Service roadmap.

- Establish requirements for the operational capabilities required to deliver storage as a service, including capacity forecasting, performance optimization, customer environment monitoring, hardware lifecycle management, customer success, and site reliability engineering capabilities.

- Develop strong relationships with customers, partners, and field organizations to understand evolving requirements and translate customer and market insights into product priorities and differentiated capabilities.

- Monitor the competitive and market landscape, particularly developments across enterprise storage, public cloud, and consumption-based infrastructure services, and incorporate those insights into product strategy and differentiation.

- Create the organizational and operating foundation needed to move from an initial incubation model to a scalable Storage as a Service business.

Education and Experience Required

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, engineering, business, or a related field. MBA or advanced technical degree preferred.

- 15+ years of experience in product management with progressive leadership across Storage and aaS portfolio domains.

- Significant product management leadership experience, ideally encompassing end-to-end ownership rather than solely inbound or outbound product management.

- Demonstrated experience developing and bringing new technology products, services, or business models to market.

- Strong experience in enterprise storage, cloud, as-a-service, consumption-based infrastructure, or related technology markets, ideally with experience spanning both storage and cloud/as-a-service models.

- Experience operating with broad product or business ownership, including strategy, engineering engagement, go-to-market, customer engagement, and operational execution.

- Demonstrated leadership of product teams and ability to lead and influence cross-functional organizations in a highly matrixed environment.

Knowledge and Skills

- Deep understanding of the enterprise storage industry, its customers, technology landscape, and competitive environment.

- Strong knowledge of cloud and as-a-service business and technology models, including consumption-based services, SLA/SLO-driven offerings, capacity management, performance optimization, metering, billing, and customer lifecycle considerations.

- Exceptional product management skills with the ability to move between strategy, business, product definition, technical execution, and go-to-market leadership.

- Strong technical foundation and ability to work credibly and deeply with engineering teams on enterprise infrastructure and storage architecture without needing to operate as the hands-on engineer.

- Strong business and financial acumen with the ability to develop compelling value propositions and establish sustainable service offerings.

- Demonstrated ability to build and launch new offerings from the ground up, operating effectively in an incubation environment where requirements, processes, and operating models are still being defined.

- Outstanding cross-functional leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to align engineering, operations, marketing, sales, services, finance, partners, and other stakeholders around a common strategy.

- Highly agile and adaptable leadership style, with the ability to operate effectively in ambiguity, move quickly, and balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.

- Strong customer orientation and ability to translate customer outcomes and market requirements into differentiated product and service capabilities.

- Ability to lead a small, entrepreneurial team while simultaneously influencing a much broader set of resources across a large enterprise organization.
