About this role
About OLIX
AI is growing faster than any technology in history and the explosion in demand has created a massive infrastructure gap; we can no longer build chips or power stations fast enough to keep up. The industry is still leaning on a ten-year-old hardware blueprint that has reached its limit. A new paradigm that is faster and more efficient will be the biggest economic opportunity of the next century and create the most important company of the next decade. The OLIX Decode Accelerator 1 (DX-1) is the first accelerator architected specifically for decode. Rack-scale co-design of logic, data movement, packaging, optics and interconnect enables a step change in system level performance.
About the role
This is a chance to get hands-on at the heart of a fast-growing AI hardware company. You'll run a micro-fabrication process flow in our London cleanroom, and the samples you make go straight into the prototypes our engineers are building for the next generation of AI infrastructure.
This role suits someone with excellent cleanroom discipline who takes pride in careful, repeatable work and wants to see it make a difference fast.
This is a 3-6 month contract role.
What you'll do
- You'll run established process steps from written procedures, working closely with our process engineers
- Run cleanroom process steps such as substrate preparation and photolithography, following SOPs exactly
- Operate and look after process tools: routine checks, simple maintenance and flagging faults early
- Inspect work in progress for defects using metrology tools and decide when to stop and escalate
- Take routine measurements, such as thickness, surface profile and feature dimensions, to set methods
- Prepare samples for test and hand them over to the engineering team.
- Keep accurate run records so every sample is traceable
- Keep the cleanroom running: gowning discipline, housekeeping, consumables, materials storage and safe chemical handling
- Support engineers on experiments and report clearly what you observed
What you'll bring
- Excellent cleanroom practice is the core requirement; we'll train you on our specific tools and recipes
- At least one year of hands-on work in a cleanroom (ISO 7 or better), in industry or as a regular research cleanroom user
- Practical fabrication experience: demonstrated ability to independently operate fabrication processes and record measurement results using metrology tools
- Excellent contamination control: full-gowning, clean handling and working steadily in a cleanroom for long sessions
- Careful defect inspection under a microscope, and the judgement to stop and flag a problem
- Meticulous record-keeping: you follow SOPs exactly and write down what actually happened
- Safe working with chemicals, hot equipment, UV light and lasers
- Right to work in the UK, and eligibility under the export-control conditions below
Nice to have
- Experience across several process areas, such as coating, bonding, wet processing, deposition or etch
- Metrology: stylus or optical profilometry, confocal microscopy and thickness measurement
- Work in a production or pilot-line setting (semiconductor, MEMS, PCB, display or medical devices) as well as in R&D
- A degree, or study towards one, in physics, materials science, chemistry or engineering
- Simple data handling in Excel or Python for run logs and SPC charts
Due to U.S. export control regulations, candidates’ eligibility to work at OLIX depends on their most recent citizenship or permanent residency status. We are generally unable to consider applicants whose most recent citizenship or permanent residence is in certain restricted countries (currently including Iran, North Korea, Syria, Cuba, Russia, Belarus, China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Venezuela). Applicants who have subsequently obtained citizenship or permanent residency in another country not subject to these restrictions may still be eligible.
