About bp

Our purpose is to bring together people, energy and markets to power and navigate a changing world. In a time of constant change and possibility we need new talent to pursue commercial opportunities, fueled by world-class insight and expertise. We’re always striving for more innovative digital solutions, sustainable outcomes and closer collaboration across our company and beyond, and you could be part of that too!

About the team

The North American biogas business creates and optimises value across the full value chain, from third-party purchases and equity supply through to sales to transport and voluntary-market customers. Biogas deals are complex, combining physical gas with environmental credits and customized contractual terms. Historically, deal information has been managed across multiple systems and spreadsheets, creating duplicate entry, fragmented reporting, manual effort and increased operational and compliance risk at a time when business volumes are expected to grow significantly.

Biogas Deal Management (BDM) is the business and technology initiative established to address these challenges. It is creating a more integrated and scalable deal-management landscape, with the Biogas Transformational Exchange (BTX) serving as the central point for capturing and managing key biogas deal information and connecting it with the appropriate trading and reporting systems. BDM is intended to improve data consistency, portfolio visibility, reporting and controls, reduce manual activity, and provide the digital foundation required to support continued growth.

The Biogas Business Subject Matter Expert (SME) represents the business within BDM, ensuring that business processes, regulatory needs and user requirements are translated into practical, controlled and scalable solutions. The role supports delivery across the project lifecycle, from requirements and solution design through testing, deployment and post-go-live stabilisation. Its primary focus is North American activity, while also providing proportionate support for a smaller programme of enhancements required by the European biogas business.

Key Accountabilities

- Act as a key business representative and point of contact for the BDM project, maintaining strong engagement across North American biogas interested parties, technology teams and related functions.
- Translate business priorities, difficulties and regulatory obligations into clear requirements, process designs and solution decisions, ensuring that current and anticipated business needs are understood and appropriately addressed.
- Lead and support current-state and future-state process design, including deal capture, order updates, settlement statements, reporting, data flows and other end-to-end biogas processes.
- Work with interested parties to assess solution options, including what should be delivered through BDM, integrated systems or controlled manual processes, while finding opportunities for simplification and standardisation.
- Support the definition and prioritisation of BDM scope and achievements, balancing business value, regulatory need, delivery dependencies, technical feasibility and implementation timing.
- Coordinate business input into user acceptance testing, including test planning, business scenarios, test data, tester readiness, defect triage, retesting and reporting of progress, risks and readiness.
- Support change impact assessment, business communications, training, user guidance and readiness activities to prepare impacted teams for new functionality, processes and ways of working.
- Coordinate launch and post-go-live business readiness, including readiness criteria, deployment dependencies, parallel-run validation, Early Life Support and transition into ongoing operational support.
- Monitor business defects, production issues, enhancements, data-quality concerns and cross-team dependencies, coordinating timely validation, prioritisation, resolution and critical issue where required.
- Support business validation of migrated and historical data, reporting outputs and interfaces between BDM/BTX and connected systems, ensuring information is fit for operational, commercial and regulatory use.
- Represent BDM requirements and impacts in relevant North American regulatory and business discussions, including Clean Fuel Regulations, RINs/Proof of Sustainability and other emerging biogas obligations where applicable.
- Support governance and decision-making by preparing concise updates, risks, recommendations and decision materials, maintaining actions and ensuring clear ownership and follow-through.
- Identify and support the tracking of business benefits, including revenue enablement, cost avoidance, risk reduction, process efficiency, control improvement and scalability.
- Coordinate with other business SMEs and project teams to ensure BDM solutions integrate effectively with the wider end-to-end process and do not create adverse impacts across connected capabilities.
- Visible ambassador for BDM, promoting business adoption, constructive collaboration and continuous improvement throughout delivery and stabilisation.

Essential experience and job requirements

- Significant experience in a trading, supply or operational environment, preferably within biogas, renewable fuels, low carbon or related commodity markets.
- Strong understanding of the end-to-end lifecycle of a deal and how commercial activity interacts with operations, settlements, reporting, controls and regulatory obligations.
- Experience translating sophisticated business processes and requirements into clear technology and process outcomes across a project delivery lifecycle.
- Practical experience of testing, implementation, business readiness and post-go-live support, with the ability to assess risks and make balanced recommendations.
- Strong stakeholder-management, facilitation and influencing skills, with the confidence to work across business, technology and leadership teams.
- Clear written and verbal communication, simplify complex issues, support timely decisions and maintain alignment across multiple interested parties.
- Strong business judgement, attention to detail and follow-through, handle challenging priorities and adapt to changing delivery needs.
- Collaborative and results-oriented approach, demonstrating bp values and behaviours and a commitment to safe, controlled and sustainable business growth.
