Founded in 1999, Geneva Trading is a premier global principal trading firm with strategically located offices in Chicago, Dublin, and London. Our relentless focus on trading excellence combined with technological innovation has equipped us with a best-in-class proprietary trading platform, enabling us to compete at the highest levels in the global markets. Our nimble organizational structure and entrepreneurial spirit attract top-tier talent with a passion for innovation, laying the foundation and driving our consistent success in the industry.
As a Senior Trade Support Engineer on the Asian shift at Geneva Trading, you will be the senior technical owner of trading support during the Asian session (Sunday–Thursday, US Central evening). Operating as the front line for problem resolution, you will act as the vital intermediary between our trading teams and Core Technology teams at a time when most of the wider organization is offline.
To be successful in this position, the ideal candidate must be highly autonomous, capable of making sound real-time decisions under pressure, and adept at leading incidents through to resolution. Beyond immediate triage, you will drive root-cause fixes to prevent recurring issues, raise the standard of the shift by mentoring other engineers, own critical documentation, and automate repetitive work. Ultimately, you will serve as the senior Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the suite of trading applications and infrastructure that Geneva Trading provides to its teams.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Incident Management & Troubleshooting
- Shift Leadership: Own Trade Support coverage for the Asian session as the senior engineer on shift, providing first- and second-line investigation and utilizing strong judgment to act independently while US and EU staff are offline.
- Incident Response: Lead incident response during Asian hours by triaging issues, engaging on-call Core Technology teams with clear evidence, keeping trading teams informed via standard communication protocols, and writing comprehensive post-incident summaries.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot desktop and server trading applications, including the desktop trading platform, Core backend trading services, strategy applications, and issues related to orders, fills, market data, and exchange connectivity.
- Root Cause Analysis: Perform deep log, process, and system analysis across Linux and Windows environments to identify root causes and drive permanent fixes in collaboration with Service Owners.
Operations & Deployment
- Market Readiness: Validate Sunday market opens, exchange session transitions, maintenance windows, and holiday schedules for markets active during the Asian session (e.g., JPX, CME Globex, ICE).
- Release Management: Test, deploy, and (when necessary) roll back releases and upgrades to Core backend applications and trading strategies during the Asian window.
- Global Handovers: Deliver high-quality shift handovers to the EU team and take ownership of open items from the US team to ensure continuous, cross-time-zone ticket progression.
- Trader Support: Onboard traders, manage trading credentials, and resolve workstation, remote-access, and hardware issues to maximize their mastery of internal trading applications.
Engineering, Automation & Mentorship
- Automation: Automate recurring support tasks using scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash).
- AI Integration: Leverage AI tools (e.g., LLM assistants, coding agents) to accelerate log analysis, triage, scripting, and documentation. Help improve the team’s AI-assisted support tooling while rigorously verifying AI output before executing on production systems.
- Monitoring & Observability: Build, tune, and refine monitoring and alerting systems to surface actionable alerts and reduce operational noise.
- Team Development: Mentor and train Asian-shift Trade Support Engineers, review ticket and handover quality, and set a high standard of excellence for the shift.
- Documentation: Own and continuously improve runbooks and knowledge-base articles to empower the shift to resolve issues without escalation.
- Project Leadership: Lead or contribute to team projects that enhance the reliability, observability, and supportability of the overarching trading environment.
Job Qualifications
Education & Core Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, another STEM field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Industry Experience: 7+ years of experience supporting electronic trading systems, including significant time spent as a senior or lead engineer on a trade support or production support desk.
- Incident Leadership: Proven track record of leading production incidents end-to-end in a critical, low-latency trading environment.
Technical Skills
- Systems & OS: Strong Linux expertise (process, memory, networking, and system diagnostics) alongside solid Windows experience.
- Trading Fundamentals: Detailed understanding of the trade lifecycle, order types, exchange connectivity, and the FIX protocol. Familiarity with Asia-Pacific exchanges, including their session, maintenance, and holiday schedules.

- Monitoring & Ticketing: Experience with monitoring and analytics tools (e.g., Splunk, Zabbix, Grafana) as well as ticketing and wiki platforms (Jira, Confluence).
- Applied AI: Hands-on experience utilizing AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, GitHub Copilot) in day-to-day engineering or support workflows, paired with sound judgment regarding output verification.
Soft Skills & Working Conditions
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, concise updates to traders and engineers during live, high-pressure incidents.
- Autonomy: Highly comfortable working independently overnight with limited real-time backup, possessing a strong sense of when and how to escalate issues.
- Leadership: Demonstrated experience mentoring or training junior engineers and taking ownership of technical projects from inception to deadline.
- Continuous Improvement: A self-starter mentality with a relentless desire to improve current technology, operations, and support functions, including a curiosity for applying AI to operations and sharing best practices with the broader team.
- Schedule Requirements: Ability to work a Sunday–Thursday Asian-session schedule (US Central evening hours), including some exchange holidays per the team rotation, as well as weekend on-call duties.
