Let’s get to know each other. We’ll go first.

BMO is a top 10 bank in North America supporting more than 13 million clients. Our services include personal and commercial banking, global markets, wealth management, and investment banking. We got our start in 1817, and we're driven by our purpose: To Boldly Grow the Good in business and life.

Our UX Org is 100+ strong, but our Experience Principles keep us aligned: earn trust with every interaction; meet them today, build for tomorrow; push beyond the expected; and leave no one behind.

If you’re ambitious, curious, creative, and eager to make an impact, you should consider BMO as a place to grow.

What does it mean to be a Senior Content Designer at BMO?

As a Senior Content Designer at BMO, you bring exceptional writing craft and strategic content thinking to the table. You’re a collaborator at heart, partnering with Product Design and UX Research to shape smart, holistic solutions you all believe in.

You turn complex information and customer problems into experiences that feel simple, clear and human. You don’t just write the words that go into an experience. You help define the experience itself: what we communicate, when we communicate it, how information is structured and what customers need to know to confidently move forward.

Your work is informed by research, analytics and customer needs, and you communicate your rationale so everyone understands the “why.” You’re comfortable challenging a brief, exploring multiple solutions and using evidence to recommend the strongest direction.

You think beyond individual screens and features, creating content patterns and approaches that can scale across journeys and systems. You communicate openly with Product, Design, Research, Development and business partners so everyone understands how content contributes to the overall experience.

You roll up your sleeves, but you also help elevate the team by offering feedback, developing content standards and patterns, mentoring other designers, and supporting hiring and onboarding. You’re a writer, a designer, a strategist, a connector and an advocate for making complex experiences genuinely better for customers and the business.

About The Role

We’re seeking a Senior Content Designer to join our team, reporting to the Senior Manager of UX and working alongside a team of product designers, content designers, and researchers. This role is critical to the Branch Modernization team.

What You’ll Do

- Show up as a strong Content Design and UX voice in cross-functional standups, UX kickoffs and sprint planning, advocating for clear, inclusive and customer-centred experiences.
- Own the content experience for complex features and end-to-end journeys , partnering with Product Design, UX Research, Product and Development to help shape strategy, feature definition, scope and what success looks like.
- Turn complex information and requirements into clear, intuitive experiences , determining what customers need to know, how information should be structured and when it should be communicated.
- Challenge the brief when necessary and systematically explore solutions , using customer needs, business objectives and evidence to develop and recommend differentiated content approaches.
- Partner closely with Product Designers to influence information hierarchy, interactions, page and screen structure, flows and the overall experience, rather than treating content as a final layer applied to an existing design.
- Create and evolve reusable content patterns, guidelines and standards that solve immediate customer problems while helping experiences work consistently across products, journeys and systems.
- Leverage AI tooling and integrations thoughtfully to accelerate exploration, analysis and content production while maintaining a high bar for accuracy, customer understanding, accessibility, brand voice and human judgment.
- Work hand-in-hand with Development and Product through delivery , clarifying content intent, reviewing implemented experiences and supporting QA so that the final experience lands as intended.
- Partner with UX Research by helping shape research questions, participating in sessions and using existing research to understand customer needs, language and mental models. BMO's Content Design rubric specifically calls for working with Research to understand customer needs and determine the information required throughout an experience.
- Use analytics, research and customer data to evaluate content and experience effectiveness , uncover opportunities and inform future iterations.
- Facilitate and confidently represent your work in critiques and cross-functional reviews, communicating content strategy and rationale, navigating feedback and adapting solutions with purpose.
- Strengthen the Content Design and broader UX practice by contributing to hiring, onboarding, critiques, design rituals, standards and the culture that makes great design possible.
- Mentor and coach more junior Content Designers , helping them strengthen their craft, strategic thinking and ability to navigate complex design problems.
- Keep pushing your craft , sharpening your writing and design instincts and exploring emerging methods, technologies and tools that can raise the quality and effectiveness of our work.

What We’re Looking For

- Exceptional content design and UX writing craft. You can simplify complex information, develop clear information hierarchies and create concise, accessible experiences without sacrificing accuracy or meaning.
- Strong strategic and systems thinking. You can move between the details of a single interaction and the broader customer journey, identify patterns, and develop scalable content approaches that work across products and channels.
- Strong collaboration and influence. You’re comfortable partnering with Product Design, Research, Product, Development and business stakeholders, challenging assumptions constructively and clearly communicating the rationale behind your recommendations.
- A customer- and evidence-led approach to design. You use research, analytics, accessibility principles and customer needs to inform decisions, assess outcomes and continuously improve experiences.

Your Qualifications

- 5+ years of professional experience in Content Design, UX Writing, Content Strategy or a related UX field , ideally working on complex digital products in an enterprise environment.
- Specialized knowledge gained through post-secondary education and/or relevant business experience.
- Excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills , with the ability to make complex or technical information clear, useful and engaging.
- Excellent communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience with cross-functional workshop planning and facilitation.
- Experience with Figma and collaborative product-design workflows , including working with design systems and reusable content patterns.
- Experience using AI-powered and emerging tools and workflows to improve content exploration, analysis and delivery.
- Well versed in Design Thinking and user-centred design methodologies and their application to content and experience design.
- Deep, applied knowledge of accessibility, inclusive design and UX best practices , including writing and structuring content so experiences can be understood by a wide range of customers.
- Strong understanding of information architecture, content hierarchy and interaction design , enabling you to influence how content and UI work together.
- Ability to use qualitative and quantitative evidence to evaluate an experience and inform future iterations.
- Proficiency with standard office and collaboration tools.
- Experience working effectively as a cross-functional member of an Agile product team , partnering throughout discovery, design, development and delivery.
