Civil Engineer | City of Olathe

Annual Salary Range: $70,013 - $112,756

Put your civil engineering expertise to work where it matters every day. As a Civil Engineer with the City of Olathe’s Water and Sewer team, you will help plan, design, and deliver the infrastructure that provides safe, reliable water service and wastewater collection for a growing community.

About the Role

You will work on meaningful capital projects involving water mains, sanitary sewers, pump stations, system improvements, and development-related infrastructure. From early planning and design review through construction and long-term system planning, you will have the opportunity to see the direct impact of your work.

This role offers hands-on public-sector engineering experience and the opportunity to contribute to the maintenance, improvement, and long-term reliability of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure while working alongside experienced professionals.

If you are ready to apply your private-sector experience to high-visibility public infrastructure, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and build a career with lasting community impact, the City of Olathe offers a rewarding next step.

This position is designed as a two-level career progression, allowing candidates to enter at either the Civil Engineer II or Civil Engineer III level, based on experience and qualifications.

Qualifications

Civil Engineer II
At least two years of experience in civil engineering, project management, or a related field. Strong internship experience in municipal, water/wastewater, or transportation engineering may also be considered.

Civil Engineer III
At least four years of experience in civil engineering, project management, or a related field. Must be a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Kansas, or able to obtain Kansas PE licensure within six months of employment. Candidates without a PE license or with fewer than four years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply for the Civil Engineer II position. A valid driver’s license and favorable driving record are required.
