Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School (CGPS) is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and experienced Choreographer for our upcoming Grammar School production of Shrek Jr. , featuring students in 4th and 5th grades.
We are looking for someone who loves working with young performers, brings positive energy to the rehearsal room, and can create fun, dynamic, age-appropriate choreography for a range of dance abilities.
Position Details
- Production: Shrek Jr.
- Contract Dates: Auditions January 20, 21, 22nd 2026
- Rehearsals February 9th – May 7, 2027
- Compensation: $2,500 stipend
- Rehearsal Days: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
- Choreographer Schedule: Typically called 2 days per week
- Rehearsals 3:00–5:00 PM
- Spring Break (No Rehearsals): March 12–29
- Performance Week: May 3–7, 2027
Responsibilities
- Create and teach engaging, age-appropriate choreography for musical numbers.
- Collaborate closely with the director, assistant director and musical director.
- Work with students of varying dance experience and abilities.
- Help students build confidence, performance skills, and strong ensemble work.
- Attend scheduled rehearsals and necessary technical/dress rehearsals leading up to performances.
Qualifications
- Experience choreographing musical theatre productions.
- Experience working with elementary or middle school students preferred.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
- Ability to make rehearsals productive, supportive, and fun!
