About this role
Location: Remote, based in Kenya
Job type: Full-time contractor, exclusive to Magic
Compensation: $1,500 USD per month
About Magic
Magic connects busy US founders, executives and teams with highly capable remote assistants. Our clients rely on their assistants to run calendars, inboxes, travel and projects with speed and precision, so the bar for who we place is high.
About the role
We're building a pipeline of top Executive Assistants in Kenya, and we need an experienced recruiter on the ground to own it. Your job is to find the people who don't just interview well but deliver from day one: resourceful, detail-obsessed operators who communicate clearly and follow through on what they say they can do. You'll be measured on how well your hires perform and stay with clients, not on how many people you push through.
Key Responsibilities
- Source beyond the job boards: tap into tech ecosystems, multinational and consulting offices, professional networks and referrals to find high-caliber EA talent.
- Screen with evidence, not claims: look past polished CVs and verify experience, tools and outcomes. If they can talk the talk, then they need to prove they can walk the walk.
- Run practical work simulations: administer and grade timed, realistic exercises (e.g., conflicting calendars across time zones, messy inbox triage, ambiguous travel requests) that test attention to detail and judgement.
- Assess communication: evaluate spoken and written English for clarity, pacing and comprehension in fast-moving, US-style working conditions, including recorded video screens and live roleplay.
- Own quality: track how your placed EAs perform at 30, 60 and 90 days and use what you learn to sharpen sourcing and screening.
- Share clear, candid feedback and graded scorecards with Magic's hiring team for every candidate you advance.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- 2+ years of recruiting experience hiring Kenyan talent for US remote roles.
- A strong track record of separating candidates who interview well from candidates who perform.
- A process-driven approach: you believe structured skills tests and work samples beat unstructured conversations.
- Clear understanding of the speed, rigor and precision expected by US executives and startups.
- Excellent written and spoken English and a direct, constructive communication style.
- Reliable internet, a quiet workspace, and availability that overlaps with US business hours.
- No other ongoing commitments that would compete with this role.
Benefits
- $1,500 USD per month, paid in USD.
- Ownership of a brand-new hiring channel, with room to design how it works.
- Direct partnership with Magic's hiring and training leadership.
How to apply
Along with your CV, please submit a short video (2–3 minutes, e.g., Loom) answering:
- What two signals on a CV most often tell you a candidate is overstating their experience, and how do you verify them?
- Describe the practical exercise you'd use to test whether an Executive Assistant candidate has strong attention to detail, and how you'd grade it.
