About this role
Die Albert Schweitzer Stiftung für unsere Mitwelt is looking for
Senior EU Public Affairs Officer (m/f/x)
starting early 2027, based in Brussels (with flexible hybrid working), 38 hours per week (full-time), on a permanent contract.
Our vision is a world in which no animal suffers for the production of food. Our mission is to work together to raise animal welfare standards and reduce the consumption of animal products. Through our work, we make an impact in the areas of business, law, and politics. At every level, we drive practical change for animals alongside the relevant stakeholders – and we help even those who might be seen as opponents to break with established practices.
Based in Brussels, you will work closely with our Senior Policy Officer in Berlin and with the other colleagues across our Politics & Law team. Together, you will strengthen the Foundation’s EU advocacy and help ensure that our policy priorities are effectively represented in relevant EU processes. To make this happen, you cultivate strong, trusted relationships with the stakeholders who matter at EU level – from the European Commission, the European Parliament, Member State representatives, NGOs, farmer´s associations and to other relevant stakeholders. You will help to place the Foundation’s strategic priorities and expertise at the heart of EU legislative procedures.
Your contribution will be:
- You identify relevant political developments, decision-making processes and advocacy opportunities processes early, use them to advance higher farm animal welfare standards and coordinate closely with political stakeholders at EU level.
- You implement EU-specific strategies, position papers and lobbying formats.
- You proactively build and maintain a strong network in Brussels, developing trusted relationships with relevant decision-makers, political staff, institutions, partner organisations and other political stakeholders.
- You monitor formal and informal political developments, put them into context from the Foundation's perspective and recommend concrete next steps.
- You represent the Foundation independently in political meetings, events and relevant Brussels networks and confidently communicate our agreed positions.
Your profile:
- You are an experienced and proactive relationship-builder who is comfortable approaching political stakeholders, building trust over time and maintaining a diverse professional network.
- You hold a degree in political science, agricultural science or a related field.
- You bring more than five years of professional experience in an area relevant to the role.
- You have a very good understanding of EU legislative processes and strong strategic policy and writing skills.
- You enjoy following political developments, quickly understand changing dynamics and assess situations analytically and strategically.
- You have a convincing presence and represent positions with confidence to decision-makers.
- You work independently and in a self-organised way, keep an overview even in hectic phases and tackle tasks proactively.
- You speak and write English at C1 level and ideally German at B1 level; another EU language is a plus.
- You enjoy working with others – even when not everyone is in the same place.
- You identify with our vision, mission and culture.
What we offer you:
- Purpose-driven work: as part of the Politics & Law team, you directly drive social change and improve animal welfare.
- Hybrid working: you are based in Brussels and work in a hybrid model (home office and Brussels office) with flexible, family-friendly working hours.
- Professional team: collegial, open exchange within a highly motivated team.
- New Office: our Brussels office opens in 2027, with a dedicated, ergonomic workspace for you.
- Attractive remuneration: gross monthly salary between EUR 4,100 and EUR 4,700 depending on experience.
- Benefits package: meal vouchers, an employer-funded group insurance scheme, hospitalisation insurance, and full reimbursement of public transport.
- Mental health matters: you have access to an online platform for mental health support.
- Professional development: active support for your training and further education.
The final remuneration package, including statutory supplements and benefits, will be confirmed in accordance with the applicable Belgian joint committee.
