About this role

About Bota Systems

Bota Systems AG is a Zürich-based ETH spin-off building high-precision 6-axis force-torque, torque and tactile sensors — a sensing platform for physical AI. As robot OEMs, integrators and humanoid companies move to volume, our sensors must be as easy and cheap to build as they are precise.

We are hiring a Design for Manufacturing (DFM) Engineer to be the bridge between R&D and production.

The role

You make sure every sensor we design can be built reliably, at scale and at the lowest cost — from the first sketch to the part arriving at our incoming inspection.

Key responsibilities

Design for manufacturing

- Co-design our sensors with the mechanical design team so they are easier and cheaper to manufacture and assemble.
- Collect feedback from production and turn it into concrete design changes.
- Give structured DFM feedback to mechanical design engineers on tolerances, materials, part count and assembly.
- Perform FEM analysis to verify structural integrity of parts and assemblies.

Drawings, jigs and tools

- Create and review manufacturing drawings (GD&T, tolerances, surface finish) ready for manufacturing.
- Design jigs, fixtures and tools that speed up production and improve repeatability of the parts you design.

Production documentation, PDM and ERP

- Write clear, illustrated assembly and test instructions for production.
- Together with the mechanical design engineer, keep instructions and documentation in the PDM clear, structured and up to date.
- Create the bill of materials in our ERP (Odoo) and keep it up to date through every design change.
- Manage revisions so production and purchasing always work from the current version.

Purchase orders and incoming quality

- Review purchase orders for correct parts, revisions and specifications.
- Inspect incoming parts, define inspection criteria and report deviations to purchasing.

What success looks like after 12 months

- Reduced part count, assembly time and part cost on at least one core sensor through DFM changes.
- Complete, accurate BOMs in Odoo for all active products, with clean revision control.
- Production working from current, standardized instructions and your jigs and fixtures.
- Fewer incoming-quality issues thanks to clear drawings and inspection criteria.
- A short, reliable feedback loop between production and R&D.

Who you are

Must have

- Degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics or similar.
- 3+ years in DFM, manufacturing engineering or mechanical design of precision parts.
- Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks) and solid command of technical drawings and GD&T.
- Hands-on FEM experience for structural analysis.
- Practical knowledge of machining, injection molding and cable assembly processes.
- Experience designing jigs and fixtures.
- Fluent English; German is a strong plus.

Nice to have

- Background in sensors, robotics, metrology or medical devices.
- Experience with ERP systems (ideally Odoo) and BOM management.
- Incoming inspection and measurement experience (CMM, gauges).
- Experience taking a product from prototype to series production.

What we offer and how to apply

- A role with direct impact on how our products are built as we scale to volume.
- Work across design and production in a fast-growing deep-tech company.
- A small, ambitious team at the forefront of physical AI and robotics.
- Competitive salary and employee participation.
