About this role

Job Title: Methods Engineer Job Description
The Methods Engineer analyzes aerospace engineering documentation and develops detailed, practical manufacturing plans that translate technical requirements into repeatable production processes. This role focuses on composite materials and structural bonding, preparing work instructions, estimating costs, and optimizing the flow of parts through manufacturing while ensuring quality, engineering, and customer requirements are consistently met. The position combines office-based planning with hands-on support on the shop floor, offering direct involvement in solving real manufacturing challenges and improving how parts and assemblies are built.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and interpret aerospace drawings, prints, specifications, CAD models, and technical documents to understand product and process requirements.
- Prepare detailed manufacturing planning for parts, assemblies, composite components, and fabrication processes, ensuring plans are clear, practical, and aligned with production needs.
- Develop and support prototyping and manufacturing plans for new composite products in collaboration with manufacturing, quality, and logistics teams.
- Create integrated manufacturing procedures and work instructions that support production requirements and are easily followed by shop-floor personnel.
- Estimate costs for assembly, composite layup, fabrication, manufacturing, inspection, and related processes, and prepare supporting cost and material documentation.
- Obtain cost and material estimates from subcontractors and suppliers as required to support accurate planning and budgeting.
- Plan the flow of parts through manufacturing operations, ensuring that quality standards, engineering specifications, and customer requirements are consistently met.
- Support MRP system activities, including tool orders, item master setup, planning data, and document control functions, to maintain accurate and up-to-date production information.
- Ensure manufacturing planning aligns with required material finishes, processing requirements, inspection needs, and customer specifications.
- Use CAD data and technical documentation to support accurate process development and continuous improvement of manufacturing methods.
- Conduct work measurement, time studies, work simplification, and related process improvement activities to enhance efficiency and throughput.
- Collect and compile operational data to assist in developing estimates, project schedules, specifications, reports, and planning documentation.
- Prepare cost estimates, material estimates, project schedules, reports, and detailed planning documents to support production and management decision-making.
- Support production and shop-floor manufacturing by troubleshooting issues, reviewing how parts are built, and adjusting work instructions and processes to improve practicality and quality.
- Collaborate closely with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure manufacturing processes are robust, controlled, and aligned with continuous improvement goals.
- Apply root-cause analysis and corrective action methodologies to resolve manufacturing problems and prevent recurrence.
- Use FMEA and PFMEA approaches to identify potential process risks and implement preventive measures in manufacturing planning.
Essential Skills
- 57 years of methods or manufacturing engineering experience, with a strong focus on manufacturing processes and process improvement.
- Proven experience as a Manufacturing Engineer or Methods Engineer in a production environment.
- Strong composite manufacturing experience, including hands-on work with composite materials and processes.
- Experience working with fiberglass, resin, and fiber materials in a production setting.
- Knowledge of structural bonding and adhesive processes used in composite and aerospace manufacturing.
- Experience creating manufacturing work instructions, process plans, routings, or travelers for shop-floor use.
- Demonstrated experience supporting production and shop-floor manufacturing activities.
- Ability to work closely and effectively with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams in a collaborative environment.
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings, technical prints, and CAD models to develop manufacturing plans.
- Experience working with an ERP or MRP system to support planning, tool orders, item masters, and document control.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, process control, and continuous improvement principles.
- Experience with FMEA and PFMEA to assess and mitigate process risks.
- Experience performing root-cause analysis and implementing corrective actions to address manufacturing issues.
- Background in aerospace manufacturing is ideal, with the ability to apply aerospace standards and requirements.
- Process-driven and detail-oriented approach, with comfort in troubleshooting manufacturing issues and working through complex production challenges.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Composite manufacturing experience from marine, turbine blade or wind energy, automotive, or similar environments is highly relevant and can be considered.
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles and process improvement methodologies.
- Experience developing and validating methods and processes in a production environment.
- Ability to create clear, practical work instructions and documentation that are easily understood on the shop floor.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on mindset, with an interest in being close to actual manufacturing processes.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and compile operational data to support estimates, schedules, and reports.
- Comfort communicating with different teams and stakeholders and translating engineering requirements into practical manufacturing solutions.
- Attention to detail and a strong focus on quality, documentation, and process control in a regulated manufacturing environment.
Work Environment
The work environment is a mix of office-based engineering and hands-on shop-floor support within a process-driven aerospace manufacturing facility. As a Methods Engineer, you will split your time between developing plans and documentation at a desk and working directly on the manufacturing floor alongside production, quality, and engineering teams. You will regularly be present at composite and structural bonding operations, reviewing how parts and assemblies are built, addressing real-time production issues, and ensuring work instructions and processes are practical and effective for the people performing the work. The environment emphasizes quality, documentation, and attention to detail, while also valuing problem-solving and continuous improvement. This setting is well suited to someone who enjoys being close to production, communicating with cross-functional teams, and seeing the direct impact of their engineering decisions on finished aerospace products.
