About this role

Love variety? Enjoy working with people? Want a role where you can make a difference throughout the entire patient experience?

We're looking for an adaptable, people-focused Patient Support Specialist who enjoys variety, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is excited to become a valuable resource across multiple practice locations.

This unique traveling position offers the opportunity to learn and perform several important roles within our eye care practices. Through comprehensive cross-training, you'll develop skills in three key areas: Patient Services, Clinical Technician, and Optical. You'll travel between assigned locations, providing support where it's needed most and helping ensure every patient receives an exceptional experience.

Whether you're welcoming patients at the front desk, preparing them for their eye examination, or helping them find the perfect pair of glasses, you'll play an important role in keeping our practices running smoothly and our patients well cared for.

What You'll Do:

As a Patient Support Specialist, your responsibilities will span three areas of the patient experience:

Patient Services – Creating a Welcoming Experience

- Greet patients warmly and professionally, creating a positive first impression.

- Schedule appointments, answer telephone calls, coordinate patient communications, and assist with recalls.

- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, explain coverage, collect payments, and address patient billing inquiries.

- Prepare and maintain patient charts, accurately enter information into the electronic health record (EHR), and assist with insurance authorizations and claims.

- Coordinate patient check-in and check-out while monitoring patient flow and communicating delays.

- Assist with daily office operations, including payment processing, cash reconciliation, and reporting.

Optometric Technician – Supporting Quality Patient Care

- Prepare patients for eye examinations and explain preliminary testing procedures.

- Perform preliminary and doctor-requested diagnostic testing.

- Obtain patient histories and accurately document information in the EHR.

- Assist optometrists and ophthalmologists with patient procedures and examination needs.

- Prepare, clean, and maintain examination rooms, instruments, medications, and supplies.

- Help maintain an organized, safe, and welcoming clinical environment.

Optician – Helping Patients See and Look Their Best

- Guide patients through eyewear selection, recommending frames and lens options based on their prescriptions, lifestyles, and personal preferences.

- Educate patients about lens options, eyewear features, and quality choices.

- Accurately enter spectacle orders, calculate insurance co-pays, and monitor order status.

- Assist with eyewear dispensing, fittings, adjustments, and repairs.

- Follow up with patients regarding their eyewear and contact lens experience.

- Maintain optical inventory, merchandise displays, and an inviting retail environment.

Across All Locations

- Adapt quickly to the unique needs, workflows, and teams at each assigned practice.

- Step into different responsibilities based on patient volume and operational needs.

- Build positive working relationships with physicians, practice leaders, and team members.

- Communicate effectively to support seamless transitions between patient services, clinical care, and optical.

- Maintain consistent standards of professionalism, accuracy, service, and patient care.

What Makes Someone Successful in This Role:

We're looking for someone who is naturally adaptable, enjoys connecting with people, and takes pride in delivering excellent service. The ideal candidate brings:

- Flexibility & Adaptability: Enjoys variety, embraces change, and is comfortable traveling between practice locations and transitioning between different responsibilities.

- Exceptional People Skills: Builds rapport quickly, communicates confidently, and makes patients feel welcomed, valued, and comfortable.

- Strong Attention to Detail: Understands the importance of accuracy in patient records, insurance information, clinical testing, and eyewear orders.

- Confidence & Initiative: Takes ownership, anticipates needs, and is comfortable stepping in wherever support is needed.

- Composure Under Pressure: Stays organized, positive, and focused while balancing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

- Teamwork: Builds strong relationships, communicates effectively, and contributes wherever needed to support the success of the practice.

- A Commitment to Service: Balances efficiency with genuine hospitality and takes pride in creating a positive patient experience.

What You'll Bring:

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Previous healthcare, medical office, customer service, or retail experience preferred.

- Experience in optometry, ophthalmology, optical retail, or patient registration is a plus.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Comfort with technology, computer systems, and accurate data entry.

- Ability and willingness to travel between assigned practice locations.

- A willingness to learn new skills and complete cross-training in patient services, clinical technician, and optical responsibilities.

Why This Opportunity:

This is more than a traditional front desk, technician, or optical position. It's an opportunity to develop a broad skill set, gain exposure to multiple areas of eye care, and become an essential resource to our practices.

If you're someone who loves variety, enjoys helping people, and thrives on being the person a team can count on, we'd love to meet you!

Help us make a difference in every part of the patient experience.
