About this role

Job Title: Remote Transmission Line Engineer, PE Job Description We are seeking an experienced Transmission Line Engineer, PE to lead the engineering and design of high-voltage transmission line projects. In this role, you serve as a technical lead responsible for transmission line design, detailed engineering calculations, design reviews, and the development of construction-ready deliverables for systems typically ranging from 69 kV through 500 kV and above. You collaborate closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient transmission line designs that meet utility standards and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities

- Lead the engineering and design of high-voltage transmission line projects from concept through construction-ready deliverables.
- Perform and review detailed engineering calculations related to transmission line design, including structure loading, line routing, and conductor and insulator selection.
- Develop, review, and approve complete design packages and construction-ready drawings and documentation for transmission line projects.
- Use PLS-CADD extensively to model, analyze, and optimize transmission line designs across voltage levels from approximately 69 kV to 500 kV+.
- Apply utility engineering standards and National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) requirements to ensure compliant and safe transmission line designs.
- Support the design of steel monopole, lattice tower, wood, and concrete transmission structures, ensuring appropriate structure type selection for project conditions.
- Collaborate directly with clients, project managers, engineering teams, and construction personnel to clarify design requirements, resolve technical issues, and support project execution.
- Conduct design reviews to validate engineering assumptions, calculations, and compliance with standards before approving final design packages.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to project teams, helping to ensure quality, consistency, and efficiency in transmission line design.
- Support projects involving various transmission voltage levels, including 69 kV, 115/138 kV, 230 kV, 345 kV, and 500 kV systems.
- Coordinate with substation, protection and control (P&C), relay, and physical design teams to ensure alignment between transmission line and substation interfaces.
- Communicate project status, technical considerations, and design decisions clearly and professionally to stakeholders.

Essential Skills

- Bachelors degree in Civil, Structural, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited engineering program.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Typically 7+ years of transmission line engineering and design experience.
- Strong experience with PLS-CADD for transmission line modeling and analysis.
- Working knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) requirements and transmission utility design standards.
- Experience supporting transmission systems at 69 kV, 115/138 kV, 230 kV, 345 kV, and/or 500 kV voltage levels.
- Experience designing steel monopole, lattice tower, wood, and/or concrete transmission structures.
- Ability to independently review and approve engineering calculations and complete design packages.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with clients, project managers, engineering teams, and construction personnel.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience with PLS-POLE and/or PLS-TOWER software is strongly preferred.
- Background in substation engineering and coordination with transmission line projects.
- Exposure to protection and control (P&C), relay, and physical substation design disciplines.
- Ability to work effectively in a growing team environment and contribute to process and quality improvements.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in high-voltage transmission design work.

Work Environment This role typically requires a commitment of 40 hours per week in a professional engineering environment. The position offers the flexibility to work remotely, supporting collaboration with distributed project teams. You join a growing team with opportunities for professional development and advancement, along with benefits such as paid holidays and paid time off (PTO). Work is primarily computer-based, using industry-standard transmission design tools and software, with a focus on high-voltage utility projects.
