About this role

Build a pharmacy career that extends beyond traditional inpatient operations. Join UVA Health’s Inpatient Pharmacy Supply Chain team and help ensure medications and essential supplies are available where and when patient care teams need them.

This position combines hands-on pharmacy technician responsibilities with inventory management, medication receiving, requisition fulfillment, procurement support, and pharmacy supply chain operations . You will work closely with pharmacy buyers, pharmacists, technicians, clinics, and other healthcare partners while gaining valuable exposure to the operational and business functions that support a complex health system.

The Role

As a Pharmacy Technician 2 within Inpatient Pharmacy Supply Chain, you will support the movement of medications and supplies from delivery through distribution. Your work will have a direct operational impact, helping pharmacy teams and supported patient care locations maintain reliable access to needed products.

The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. , with one Saturday every third week and a corresponding weekday off .

Your day may include:

- Receiving, verifying, unpacking, organizing, and distributing pharmaceutical and supply orders to the IV room, Inpatient Pharmacy Operations, carousel areas, and other pharmacy locations.

- Processing approximately 20 to 30 daily requisitions from clinics and satellite locations, including pulling products, obtaining pharmacist verification, preparing orders, and staging them for courier pickup.

- Monitoring and fulfilling routine, new, and STAT carousel requests throughout the day.

- Receiving morning and midday deliveries from vendors such as Cardinal Health, FedEx, and UPS.

- Completing purchase-order receiving activities in PeopleSoft so vendor invoices can be processed accurately and promptly.

- Monitoring inventory levels, supporting cycle counts, initiating hospital storeroom requisitions, and coordinating replenishment needs with pharmacy buyers.

- Tracking packages and totes through the receiving area’s scanning process.

- Responding to questions involving inventory, deliveries, and receiving through the Pharmacy Supply Chain inbox.

- Communicating proactively about medication shortages, delayed deliveries, changing inventory needs, and competing operational priorities.

- Supporting contrast inventory and distribution across hospital and clinic locations as assigned.

This is an active role with a substantial receiving component. Morning deliveries may include two to three pallets of totes and boxes , and team members may spend several hours receiving and distributing shipments. The work involves moving through the receiving area, working around pallets, rolling shelving, and pallet jacks, and lifting boxes weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.

The team plans to rotate responsibilities among its three technicians, providing broader experience across requisitions, receiving, inventory, and supply chain activities . You will also have the opportunity to take ownership of an established receiving environment and contribute practical ideas as workflows and processes are modernized.

Successful team members are flexible, collaborative, and comfortable balancing hands-on operational work with computer-based responsibilities. They communicate clearly, recognize what requires immediate attention, and take initiative without needing constant day-to-day direction.
