About this role

Description

Amazon CloudWatch is AWS's native monitoring and observability service — the default infrastructure monitoring tool for millions of AWS customers. While CloudWatch excels at attaching to AWS services, the broader observability market has shifted toward end-to-end, application-centric, and agent-centric experiences led by vendors. Many customers are choosing these third-party tools for their multi-cloud and application-layer observability needs.

CloudWatch Omni is AWS's strategic answer — a ground-up rebuild of the CloudWatch experience designed to deliver multi-cloud, application-centric, and agent-centric observability. Omni tackles modern use cases including AI agent monitoring, distributed application tracing, and cross-cloud visibility, positioning CloudWatch to compete as a leading full-stack observability vendor. V1 just launched, and if successful, Omni will help grow CloudWatch even further.

As Director of Software Development for CloudWatch Omni, you will own the full product capability — the experience layer, the services that back it, and the APIs that define it. You will shape the technical architecture and product experience to transform CloudWatch from an infrastructure monitoring tool into a market-leading observability platform. This is a greenfield initiative with startup-like autonomy, backed by the scale and resources of AWS. You will lead a combination of rapid customer-driven iteration on V1, new greenfield capabilities, and go-to-market partnerships to drive adoption and competitive differentiation against established observability vendors.

Key job responsibilities
Own the end-to-end CloudWatch Omni product capability — experience, services, and APIs — driving the technical architecture and product decisions that position CloudWatch as a leading observability vendor.

Drive rapid iteration on V1 based on direct customer feedback, working backwards to deliver an application-centric and agent-centric observability experience that wins against established competitors.

Shape the strategic direction of how the product and market are evolving — generate new ideas to drive thought leadership and competitive momentum.

Lead greenfield initiatives to expand Omni's capabilities while continuing to build and scale working product features across the platform.

Partner closely with GTM teams to ensure customers are adopting, unblocked, and growing — owning the intersection of product development and market adoption.

Draw from deep technical expertise and strong product thinking to make architecture, API design, and experience tradeoffs that differentiate Omni in a competitive market.

Grow and lead a software development organization, mentoring senior engineers and managers while remaining hands-on in shaping technical direction and product vision.

Engage directly with customers to understand their needs and translate insights into product capabilities that drive adoption and retention.

A day in the life
Own the rebuild of one of AWS's largest services at a critical inflection point — where AI, agents, and multi-cloud are fundamentally changing observability.

Build a product from the ground up with startup-like autonomy with millions of existing customers.

Shape the future of CloudWatch — if Omni succeeds, it becomes the platform's next chapter and the future of app and agent centric Observability.

Gives you the resources and customer base of AWS behind you.

Work in a highly customer-facing role, directly engaging with customers to shape the product direction and experience.

Join at an exciting inflection point — in the world of AI and agents, observability is fundamentally changing, and this role puts you at the center of it.

Start in a focused leadership role with a clear growth trajectory as Omni scales into the future of CloudWatch.
