About this role

Position Summary

We are seeking a Systems Engineer with 5–10 years of experience to support the development, integration, verification, and lifecycle management of complex aerospace and defense systems, including flight vehicles and associated ground and support systems.

The successful candidate will translate mission objectives and operational needs into well-defined system requirements, functional and physical architectures, controlled interfaces, technical baselines, and verification plans. Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and digital engineering is highly desired.

This position collaborates with the Chief Systems Engineer, program leadership, and multidisciplinary hardware, software, integration, test, and specialty engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop, derive, decompose, allocate, manage, and verify mission, system, and subsystem requirements.

- Develop operational concepts and functional, logical, and physical system architectures; allocate functions across flight hardware, flight software, ground systems, and external systems.

- Define and manage mechanical, electrical, data, software, and operational interfaces; develop and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs).

- Maintain bidirectional traceability among stakeholder needs, requirements, architecture, interfaces, design artifacts, verification activities, and evidence.

- Develop and maintain system and subsystem specifications, architecture descriptions, verification matrices, and other systems engineering technical products.

- Plan and support system integration, verification, validation, and qualification or acceptance testing; establish verification methods, success criteria, and evidence.

- Perform trade studies, technical analyses, risk assessments, and interface evaluations to inform design decisions.

- Establish and maintain functional, allocated, and product technical baselines; support configuration management and change control.

- Prepare technical artifacts and participate in SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, and other program reviews as applicable.

- Support the Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP), engineering processes, issue resolution, and technical risk closure.

- Where applicable, use SysML/MBSE tools to develop architecture models and strengthen the digital thread between requirements, design, and verification.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.

- 5–10 years of systems engineering experience supporting aerospace, aviation, space, missile, defense, or other complex hardware/software-intensive systems.

- Demonstrated experience in requirements development, decomposition, allocation, traceability, and verification planning.

- Experience developing system architectures and defining and controlling subsystem and external interfaces.

- Knowledge of system integration, verification and validation, configuration management, technical baselines, and lifecycle engineering processes.

- Experience supporting formal technical reviews and preparing engineering documentation.

- Strong technical writing, communication, analytical, and cross-functional problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience applying Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), SysML, or digital engineering methods.

- Experience with Cameo Systems Modeler, CATIA Magic/MagicDraw, or comparable modeling tools.

- Experience with IBM DOORS, DOORS Next, Jama Connect, or comparable requirements management tools.

- Experience with flight vehicle development, flight test, launch vehicle interfaces, or aerospace system integration.

- Experience with digital thread practices and integrating architecture models with requirements, analysis, simulation, and test evidence.

- Familiarity with ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 and INCOSE systems engineering practices; ASEP or CSEP certification is a plus.

- Experience preparing SEMPs, system/subsystem specifications, ICDs, VCRMs, RTMs, TPMs, and technical trade studies.

- Experience supporting DoD acquisition programs or government aerospace and defense customers.

Security Requirements

- Must be a U.S. citizen.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.

- Active Secret or higher clearance preferred, depending on program requirements.
