Our Database Engineering team is focused on building and supporting secure, scalable, and highly available database platforms in a cloud-first environment. Working collaboratively with software engineering, SRE, networking, and infrastructure teams, we help modernize database environments, automate operational processes, and enable resilient cloud-native solutions.

The team combines deep database expertise with infrastructure automation and modern software development practices to support mission-critical platforms and continuously improve reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.

About the Role

We are seeking a Principal / Consulting DBA to provide strategic and hands-on technical leadership for mission-critical database platforms across cloud-first and hybrid environments. In this role, you will serve as a trusted advisor, helping define database platform strategies, guide modernization initiatives, and architect resilient solutions that support business growth and operational excellence.

You will combine deep expertise in MySQL and Oracle Database with cloud architecture, automation, infrastructure engineering, and consulting skills to drive platform reliability, scalability, security, and performance across enterprise environments.

Responsibilities

- Serve as a principal technical consultant and trusted advisor, designing, administering, optimizing, and modernizing enterprise MySQL and Oracle Database platforms.
- Assess database environments for reliability, performance, security, operational, cost, and modernization opportunities, and define strategic improvement roadmaps.
- Architect and implement replication, clustering, backup and recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
- Lead migrations from traditional and on-premises database platforms to cloud-native architectures and managed database services .
- Develop, review, and establish standards for production-quality code and automation covering provisioning, deployments, upgrades, patching, monitoring, compliance, maintenance, and operations.
- Drive Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD practices using Terraform, GitHub, and GitHub Actions.
- Establish and mature SRE practices , including SLOs, observability, incident response, blameless postmortems, reliability engineering, and automation that reduces manual operational work.
- Lead adoption of GitHub Copilot CLI, Copilot app, and Copilot in VS Code , establishing standards for AI-assisted coding, troubleshooting, testing, review, and security.
- Partner with engineering, SRE, security, networking, and infrastructure teams to deliver resilient and cost-effective platforms while mentoring engineers and providing technical direction through architecture reviews, documentation, and stakeholder communication.

Requirements

- Expert knowledge of MySQL administration, replication, backup and recovery, high availability, security, and performance tuning.
- Strong hands-on Oracle Database expertise, including RMAN, Data Guard, RAC or equivalent HA architectures, backup and recovery, tuning, security, and upgrades.
- Proven experience designing and operating highly available, resilient, enterprise-scale database platforms and leading assessments, modernization programs, cloud migrations, or architecture consulting engagements.
- Strong Linux administration, troubleshooting, and networking knowledge, including DNS, TCP/IP, load balancing, firewalls, SSL/TLS, virtual networking, and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Proven ability to develop, test, and review production-quality code and automation using Python, Go, Java, C#, PowerShell, Bash , or similar languages.
- Strong experience with Terraform, Infrastructure as Code, GitHub, GitHub Actions, and CI/CD practices.
- Experience managing databases in cloud environments, preferably Microsoft Azure , with Azure managed database services and Azure-native HA/DR experience preferred.
- Deep understanding of SRE principles and hands-on experience with AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, including the ability to establish standards for reviewing, testing, and validating AI-generated output.
- Excellent consulting, communication, and technical leadership skills; experience with Kubernetes, team-level AI/agent-driven engineering workflows, and relevant Oracle, MySQL, or Microsoft Azure certifications is preferred.


U.S. National Base Pay Range: $104,900 - $174,700. Geographic differentials may apply in some locations to better reflect local market rates.

Base Pay Range for CO is $104,900 - $174,700. Base Pay Range for IL is $110,100 - $183,500. Base Pay Range for Chicago, IL is $115,400 - $192,200. Base Pay Range for MD is $110,100 - $183,500. Base Pay Range for NY is $115,400 - $192,200. Base Pay Range for New York City is $125,900 - $209,700. Base Pay Range for Rochester, NY is $104,900 - $174,700. Base Pay Range for OH is $99,700 - $166,000. Base Pay Range for NJ is $123,816- $197,784.


This job is eligible for an annual incentive bonus.
