About this role

# Become a part of our caring community
As Associate Director of Medicare Advantage Product Management, you’ll lead a team of Senior Product Managers responsible for multiple regional Medicare Advantage product portfolios. You’ll set direction, establish standards, and create the clarity and accountability the team needs to translate enterprise, segment and market strategies into competitive, compliant and operationally executable products.

You’ll serve as a senior product voice in executive and regional forums, bringing together Product, Actuarial, Finance, Network, Compliance, Operations, Marketing and Market Leadership to make complex decisions and resolve competing priorities. When significant product, regulatory. or execution issues arise, you’ll help the organization navigate the tradeoffs, determine the path forward and drive resolution.

Just as importantly, you’ll build leadership capability within the team. This role is an opportunity to develop experienced product professionals into stronger business and product leaders, build a high-performing organization, and strengthen the talent pipeline for future leadership roles.

Lead and Develop a High-Performing Team

- Lead, coach and develop a team of Senior Product Managers, establishing clear expectations, priorities and accountability for individual, team and portfolio outcomes.

- Build leadership and product management capability through ongoing coaching, meaningful feedback, development planning, and stretch opportunities.

- Develop a strong talent pipeline through succession planning, career development and proactive identification of future leaders.

- Create an environment where Senior Product Managers operate with appropriate autonomy, sound judgment and clear ownership rather than relying on escalation for routine decisions.

- Establish clear roles, decision rights, and ways of working that enable the team to operate simply, effectively, and consistently.

- Build a culture of curiosity, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Set Portfolio Strategy and Direction

- Own product direction and priorities across assigned regional Medicare Advantage portfolios, translating enterprise, segment and market strategies into actionable product priorities.

- Establish portfolio standards and guardrails that drive consistency while allowing for appropriate market differentiation.

- Bring together competitive, financial, regulatory, operational, and market insights to inform product decisions and recommendations.

- Evaluate product opportunities, risks, and tradeoffs and provide clear recommendations to senior leadership.

- Monitor portfolio performance and emerging market needs to identify opportunities to improve product competitiveness, member value and business performance.

- Look beyond the immediate bid cycle to anticipate future portfolio needs and position teams for effective execution.

Lead Enterprise and Market Partnerships

- Serve as a senior Product Management partner for regional, segment, and functional leaders.

- Lead cross-functional collaboration across Actuarial, Finance, Network, Compliance, Operations, Marketing and Market Leadership to align product strategy and execution.

- Navigate competing priorities and facilitate decisions when financial, regulatory, operational, market and member considerations require tradeoffs.

- Represent Product Management in executive and regional leadership forums, clearly communicating product strategy, recommendations, performance, risks and decisions.

- Build trusted partnerships that allow issues to be surfaced early and resolved at the appropriate level.

Lead Medicare Advantage Bid Strategy and Execution

- Lead product strategy and readiness across the annual CMS bid cycle for assigned portfolios.

- Establish expectations, governance and decision-making disciplines that enable accurate, timely, and compliant product submissions.

- Ensure key product decisions, dependencies, regulatory requirements, and risks are identified and addressed before submission.

- Partner across Product, Actuarial, Compliance and other functions to translate strategy into executable benefit and product designs.

- Provide leadership during critical bid milestones and help teams navigate ambiguity, changing conditions and compressed decision timelines.

- Create greater consistency and repeatability across product and bid processes through lessons learned, standardization and continuous improvement.

Strengthening Quality, Compliance and Operational Excellence

- Establish and maintain standards for quality, accuracy and consistency across bids, ANOCs, EOCs, SBs, Provider Directories and other applicable CMS filings and product materials.

- Build metrics, controls and operating mechanisms that provide visibility into portfolio health, product readiness, quality and risk.

- Use data and root-cause analysis to identify systemic issues and drive sustainable improvements rather than one-time fixes.

- Identify opportunities to simplify and modernize Product Management processes, reduce unnecessary manual activity, and enable the team to focus more capacity on strategic work.

- Partner with Compliance and operational stakeholders to ensure product decisions can be translated accurately and effectively into the member and operational experience.

Lead Through Complexity, Risk and Change

- Serve as a senior escalation point for significant product, regulatory, compliance, market and operational issues.

- Assess complex issues quickly, separate symptoms from root causes, and establish a clear path to resolution.

- Make or facilitate timely decisions with appropriate consideration of member, regulatory, financial and operational implications.

- Clearly communicate decisions, rationale, risks and accountability to stakeholders and senior leaders.

- Lead the team through periods of ambiguity, transformation, and intense regulatory activity while maintaining focus on both immediate execution and longer-term improvement.

What Success Looks Like

- Build leaders, not just manage work. Develop Senior Product Managers who demonstrate greater ownership, judgment, business acumen, and leadership over time.

- Think portfolio-first. Connect individual product decisions to broaden market, segment, financial, member and enterprise objectives.

- Create clarity from complexity. Turn ambiguous business, regulatory, and market challenges into clear priorities, decisions and accountability.

- Balance strategy and execution. Keep teams focused on longer-term product strategy while delivering accurately against critical CMS deadlines.

- Make informed decisions. Use data, business judgment, and functional expertise to evaluate tradeoffs and recommend a clear path forward.

- Influence across boundaries. Create alignment among leaders and functions with different priorities without relying solely on formal authority.

- Raise the standard. Establish mechanisms, processes, and expectations that leave the organization stronger rather than simply completing the next deliverable.

- Develop the organization. Build capability, succession depth, and future leaders while creating an environment where people can do their best work.

- Lead with accountability. Own portfolio and team outcomes and address issues transparently and decisively.

How You’ll Lead

How you achieve results matters as much as what you deliver. You’ll model the Humana Way through transparent, principle-driven decisions; curiosity and continuous learning; clear accountability; and collaboration across organizational boundaries. You’ll create an environment where associates understand not only what needs to be accomplished, but why it matters and how we’ll succeed together.

Role Expectations

- Operate with significant independence within established enterprise, segment and functional strategies and policies.

- Lead through others, establishing direction and outcomes rather than personally owning every deliverable.

- Exercise sound judgment in complex situations where the path forward may not be immediately clear.

- Maintain a forward-looking view of portfolio, organizational, and talent needs while remaining accountable for near-term execution.

- Build productive relationships across functions and levels and influence decisions beyond the formal boundaries of the team.

- Translate complex information into clear recommendations appropriate for senior and executive audiences.

- Create sustainable improvements in how the organization operates, rather than relying on heroic execution.

Key Partnerships & Reporting Relationship

You’ll report to the Director, Insurance Product Management and lead a team of Senior Product Managers. You’ll work closely with segment, regional and functional leaders across Actuarial, Finance, Network, Compliance, Operations, Marketing and Market Leadership.

The work follows the annual Medicare Advantage and CMS regulatory cycle. Certain periods of the year require additional flexibility, including extended hours and occasional weekend work, to meet critical regulatory and business deadlines.
