Role Description:

We are seeking an SFN Network Development Manager to own the economic model of our third-party fulfillment network. You will build the cost-to-serve model that sits behind every partner agreement, derive and validate the rate cards we contract on, and maintain a benchmarked shadow P&L for each partner. Alongside that you will own the measurement layer that tells us whether the economics are holding, translating the commitments in partner agreements into measurable metrics and owning the reporting that goes to partners and ShipBob leadership.

This is a build role for someone who understands fulfillment operations from the floor up and can translate what happens in a building into what it costs. Comfortable moving between a cost model, a contract and a partner conversation.

This role reports to the Senior Director, Network Development, and works in close partnership with SFN Operations, Pricing, Legal and the Data team.

What you’ll do:

Modeling

- Build and own the cost-to-serve model for SFN partner operations: labor, equipment, occupancy and overhead by activity, at site level.

- Model the economics of proposed commercial terms before they are agreed, so we understand what a rate card delivers for both parties at the volumes we actually expect.

- Run scenario and sensitivity analysis on the variables that move the answer and state which assumptions the conclusion depends on.

- Model the economics of network decisions including new sites, consolidations and inventory moves, and quantify the trade-offs.

- Establish standard cost and variance analysis across the network, so that where actual cost diverges from standard we know by how much and why.

- Model payback on capital investments using cost of capital, IRR, and associated throughput metrics to drive recommendations.

Partner Performance

- Serve as the validation gate on new agreements: before a commercial commitment is signed, confirm that what it obliges us to measure and enforce can be measured and enforced, and that its terms are economically viable and fair to both ShipBob and the partner.

- Keep contractual obligations and reporting in sync as agreements evolve, so every new term has instrumentation behind it.

- Design and own partner-facing performance reporting, including what is published, to whom, at what level of detail, and on what cadence.

- Specify product requirements for the publication mechanism and work with Product and Engineering to deliver it.

- Build the analytics that surface systemic insight across the network: productivity benchmarking by region and product profile, emerging risk patterns, and structural versus situational performance variance.

Shadow P&L

- Build and own the partner shadow P&L, benchmark partner, productivity and cost against comparables, and flag deteriorating economics early, with the drivers quantified.

- Define the financial and productivity insight shared back with partners and support the rate reviews, cost model validation, and negotiations with partner-level analysis.

Mechanisms and Escalation

- Own the performance escalation framework with SFN Operations, including thresholds, owners, and touchpoint sequence, and automate escalation so issues reach the right level without manual intervention.

- Supply the performance and financial inputs for Quarterly Business Reviews.

- Additional duties and responsibilities as necessary.

What you’ll bring to the table:

- 7+ years in operational finance, costing and pricing work, plant or site controllership, FP&A or commercial finance, within manufacturing, distribution, fulfillment or a comparable operating environment.

- Demonstrated experience building economic and cost-to-serve models from first principles, rather than operating a model someone else designed.

- Working understanding of fulfillment or warehouse operations and the cost drivers within them such as labor productivity, equipment utilization, occupancy, throughput and mix. You should be able to walk a floor and understand where the cost sits.

- Comfort working with cost and industrial engineers on design engineering.

- Excellent financial literacy. Comfortable building a P&L view, understanding cost structure and margin drivers, and forming a defensible judgement on whether a commercial arrangement is working.

- Fluency with data at scale. SQL is expected, and experience with modern data platforms such as Databricks is strongly preferred. You should be able to get at the data you need to build a model without waiting on someone else to extract it.

- Ability to read a commercial agreement and translate its obligations into measurable terms. Prior exposure to contracts, service levels or commercial terms is a significant advantage.

- Experience specifying requirements to product and engineering teams and seeing a build through to delivery.

- Ability to influence and drive accountability across functions without direct authority, including with senior stakeholders.

- Exceptional rigor. Numbers that go to partners and to leadership must be right, and this role is the last line of defense on that.

- Solid written and verbal communication. Able to explain an analytical conclusion to a commercial audience and a commercial constraint to an engineering one.

- Comfort with ambiguity. Much of what this role will own does not exist yet.

- Program or project management experience is a bonus.
