About this role

About Us:

Columbia Bank is one of the largest regional banking institutions headquartered in the Western United States. Columbia operates over 400 branches across nine Western states, serving individuals, businesses, and institutional clients throughout the Pacific Northwest, California, and the Mountain West.

Columbia embraces the philosophy of being a “community bank at scale,” combining the personalized service, local market knowledge, and relationship-driven approach of community banking with the balance sheet strength, technology, sophisticated product capabilities, and geographic reach of a major regional financial institution. This combination enables Columbia to serve clients with the responsiveness of a local banking partner while delivering the comprehensive financial solutions required by businesses of increasing size and complexity.

Columbia's strategic vision is centered on becoming the Business Bank of Choice, combining disciplined commercial production with strong deposit gathering, expanded treasury management relationships, and comprehensive financial solutions. This approach emphasizes building primary banking relationships rather than pursuing individual transactions, creating opportunities to deepen client engagement, strengthen recurring revenue, and improve long-term profitability.

About the Role:

The Chief Banking Officer (CBO) is a newly established enterprise leadership position central to Columbia Bank's next phase of growth. Reporting to the CEO, the CBO will lead the Bank's primary revenue-generating banking organization, bringing together commercial and retail banking production, regional and market leadership, and specialized commercial businesses under a coordinated growth strategy.

- Execute the company's revenue strategy across commercial banking, retail banking production, and specialized commercial businesses.
- Translate enterprise objectives into regional and market business plans with clear expectations for revenue growth, loan and deposit production, fee income and profitability.
- Drive the successful implementation of the new regional and market operating model, establish clear performance accountability, and strengthen coordination across commercial banking, retail sales, and business banking.
- Empower regional and market leaders to exercise appropriate local decision-making authority while maintaining alignment with enterprise-wide priorities.
- Provide strategic and performance leadership to Institutional Commercial Real Estate, Global Payments and Deposits and Commercial Verticals.
- Strengthen the integration of specialized capabilities with regional markets to support client acquisition, relationship expansion, and the Business Bank of Choice strategy.
- Drive disciplined growth in commercial lending, core deposits, treasury management, payments, wealth management, and other fee-generating businesses.
- Promote a relationship-oriented sales culture focused on primary banking relationships, deeper client penetration, and attractive risk-adjusted returns.
- Lead a high-performing team of regional, market and specialized business executives.
- Establish clear performance expectations, strengthen succession planning, and build organizational capabilities aligned with the Bank's growth ambitions.
- Lead collaboration across regional banking, retail and wealth management sales, business banking, and specialized commercial businesses to deliver a coordinated approach to serving clients and driving profitable growth.
- Partner closely with Retail Banking leadership to align market-level revenue accountability with retail operations, staffing and functional support.
- Work with Credit, Risk, Finance, Operations, Technology, and other enterprise leaders to ensure growth initiatives are support by appropriate resources, sound underwriting, regulatory compliance and disciplined risk management.
