About this role

### About Nominal
Engineers today are building some of the most ambitious machines humanity has ever seen. They should have AI that’s purpose-built for them.
Nominal is building the Hardware Intelligence Platform that gives engineers increased visibility into complex physical systems, helps them make better decisions, and ultimately gets their products into the real world faster. It brings together the systems, data, intelligence, and applications hardware engineering requires to meet the AI moment. Hardware engineering teams use Nominal to simulate, test, manufacture, and operate the physical systems that keep the world moving, from spacecraft and autonomous vehicles to next-generation energy systems and robotics.
Our customers span aerospace, defense, manufacturing, transportation, energy, and robotics. They include Anduril, Shield AI, Wisk Aero, Pratt Miller Motorsports, Antares, and Shinkei Systems, amongst others, alongside programs within the U.S. Air Force and Navy. Our team draws from SpaceX, Palantir, Anduril, Applied Intuition, Tesla, and other leading companies, united by a common mission: giving hardware engineers the tools to build the future with speed, safety, and confidence. We're a fast-moving team that owns problems end-to-end, works across disciplines, and thrives at the intersection of hardware and software.
Some of the world’s leading technology investors, including Sequoia, Lightspeed, Founders Fund, General Catalyst, Lux Capital, and Insight Partners, are backing Nominal’s ambition to change how machines are built and operated. We’re looking for engineers who want to take on hard problems and help make a new generation of world-changing hardware possible.

### 🧭 About the role
Nominal's Editions and usage-based pricing only work if customers can see, predict, and control what they consume. The Product Manager - Manage Usage & Cost owns the customer journey for activating Nominal and for understanding, controlling, and optimizing consumption and costs, turning pricing and packaging strategy into transparent, predictable, self-service product experiences. Our first pricing model is already designed, so you'll build on it and own what comes next.
This role is ideal for a PM who is comfortable with usage and financial data and can independently own ambiguous, multi-team journeys. You'll shape which cost, consumption, and activation problems we take on, and your scope can grow to shaping pricing and packaging direction across Product, Finance, and GTM as we test new models.

####

🚀 What you'll do

- Own end-to-end experiences for usage visibility, consumption meters, credits, budgets, alerts, and cost attribution.
- Own the activation experience for new customers alongside billing, with the scope growing as the product matures.
- Partner with Billing, Engineering, Finance, and GTM to turn pricing and packaging decisions into coherent product behavior.
- Define experiences for edition selection, entitlements, upgrades, workspace and account billing, and application purchases.
- Make compute, storage, networking, and AI usage understandable to admins, developers, and buyers, with APIs and internal dashboards that support forecasting, allocation, and optimization.
- Measure customer comprehension, billing accuracy, self-service adoption, and monetization-related friction, and use AI to help customers understand usage anomalies and optimize cost responsibly.

####

🔍 We're looking for someone with

- Experience shipping metering, entitlements, or billing features in a product with paying customers.
- A background in developer-platform or cloud consumption products, where customers pay for what they use.
- A track record of tying pricing or packaging changes to the usage data behind them.
- Hands-on fluency in SQL or a BI tool, because you'll answer most usage and revenue questions yourself before going to Analytics.
- Prior ownership of an activation or onboarding journey for technical users, with the metric you used to measure it.
- Experience owning a journey end to end that spanned multiple engineering teams.

####

⚡ Skills that supercharge us

- Experience launching a company's first usage-based pricing or prepaid credit model.
- Hands-on use of a usage-based billing platform, such as Metronome or Paid.
- A background in cloud cost management or FinOps products, or in enterprise procurement workflows.

✨ Benefits/Perks

- 🏥 100% coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 🏖️ Unlimited PTO and sick leave
- 🍽️ Free lunch, snacks, and coffee
- 🚀 Professional Development Stipend
- ✈️ Annual company retreat
