About this role
The Early Childhood Substitute Teacher is responsible for implementing, leading and evaluating pre-preschool and early childhood programs in a manner that contributes to the childs well-being, growth and development. To provide a warm, nurturing, safe and loving environment where self-concept is enhanced, independence is encouraged, and individuality respected.
Supervision Received
The Early Childhood Substitute Teacher is under the direct supervision of the Program Manager.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
General Administration
- Verbal and written communication with parents, staff, participants and the general public.
- Use appropriate and positive discipline.
- Active participation in program.
- Adhere to all DCFS state guidelines
- Meet uniform and appearance standards.
Customer Service
- Staff will greet all visitors in a friendly manner.
- Staff will be courteous at all times.
- Staff will provide the customers with accurate information in all park district communications.
Safety, Health and Loss Control
- Support, promote and make recommendations regarding all safety, health and loss control policies as adopted by the park district.
- Follow all safety and health state guidelines and national accreditation standards.
Marginal Functions/Responsibilities
- Prepare materials needed in program prior to class.

- Be able to work outdoors in extreme heat and cold.

- Be able to read and understand written materials and manuals.
- Be able to follow rules and verbal instruction.
- Be able to demonstrate good safety awareness and judgement.
- Be able to demonstrate creative programming skills

Qualifications
Requirements
- 19+ years old
- Must be able to read, write and speak in English.
- CPR/AED certification or be able to earn within 60 days.
- Mandated Reporter Certification or be able to earn within 30 days.
- Must possess a strong work ethic, highly motivated, self-starting, outgoing and energetic.
Education
- B.A., B.S., or A.A. degree in Education, Recreation, or related field preferred.
- Must have a minimum of 1 year childcare experience and 30 credit hours in college coursework with 6 college credits in early childhood OR 60 college credits with 6 credits in early childhood.
