Part-Time Custodian

Non-Exempt

Function

The Building Facilities Part-Time Custodian completes custodial and maintenance of park buildings as assigned.

Supervision

Reports to the Building Maintenance Supervisor and Facility Manager

Days/Hours of Work:

Willow Recreation Center (10-15 hours)

- Weekday 5:30pm - 9:30pm

- Weekends Opening and Closing Shifts

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

General Administration

- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.

- Knowledge of floor care practices, restroom sanitation and general custodial techniques.

- Accomplish job assignments with a minimum amount of supervision.

- Responsible for the care and use of all park district equipment.

- Responsible for completion of assigned jobs.

- Perform all job assignments in a professional manner.

- Responsible for set ups and take downs of facility equipment and rentals.

- Maintain open communication with supervisors.

- Perform all other duties as assigned.

Marginal Functions/Responsibilities

- Maintain work area in an organized and safe standard.

- Remove snow and ice from public walkway.

- Perform other duties as required supervisors.

Customer Service

- Staff will be courteous at all times.

- Will assist in checking in and out renters.

- Provide facility tours to the public.

Safety, Health and Loss Control

- Support, promote or cause to be changed, all safety, health and loss control policies of the Hoffman Estates Park District.

- Require and insure that he/she utilizes proper personal protective equipment provided for use in conducting assigned work tasks.

- Notify supervisory staff of injuries or illness relating to task assigned in timely fashion.

- Cannot lift more than 50 lbs. without assistance.

Qualifications

Requirements

- Must be 18 years of age or older

- Worker must be able to operate vacuum

- Must vacuum carpets, sweep, and mop flooring

- Works must be able to operate the floor scrubber

- Empty trash and recycling

- Clean tables and chairs

- Clean drinking fountains, kitchen appliances, and restrooms.

- Fill and maintain soap dispensers, toilet paper, and paper towels.

- Wash windows, walls fixtures, counter tops, windows and touch points

- Shampoo carpets.

- Clean restrooms, locker rooms and showers.

- Setting up tables and chairs for meetings as required.

- Follow preventative maintenance and cleaning based off provided schedules.

- Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. for 25 yards.

- Policing and removal of debris in the immediate area surrounding the building including all entrances and parking lots.

- Operate and use computers and software

Psychological Considerations

- Worker must work closely with co-workers.

- Worker must work around general population/park patrons in public areas.

- Worker must work under supervision and direction of superiors.

Physiological Considerations

- Worker is exposed to chemicals (i.e., cleaning materials)

- Worker must be able to lift, push or roll heavy objects without bending or twisting restrictions.

Environmental Considerations

- Worker is exposed to outside weather conditions 5% of the time, including extreme heat and cold, snow, rain or ice.

- Protective clothing is required as needed:

Earplugs, ear covers

- Respirators

- Safety goggles/glasses

- Protective gloves

- Disposable (chemical) overalls

Cognitive Considerations

- Worker must be able to follow directions and perform responsibilities as described.

- Worker must use good safety awareness and judgement.
