FAI / Aerospace Quality Engineer – Machining
Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced FAI / Aerospace Quality Engineer with hands-on experience in aerospace machining , First Article Inspection (FAI), GD&T, engineering drawings, and aerospace quality standards. The candidate will be responsible for planning, preparing, reviewing, and maintaining FAI documentation in accordance with AS9102 , while ensuring product conformity and customer requirements are fully met.
Key Responsibilities
- First Article Inspection (FAI)
Lead, prepare, review, and approve FAI documentation in accordance with AS9102 requirements .
- Conduct Full, Partial, and Delta FAI based on customer requirements and applicable configuration changes.
- Ensure FAI packages are complete, accurate, traceable, and submitted within agreed timelines.
- Product & Documentation Conformity
Ensure conformity of machined aerospace components against approved drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Review dimensional inspection reports, material certificates, special process certificates, test reports, and other quality records .
- Verify completeness and accuracy of objective evidence supporting FAI.
- Drawing & Configuration Review
Ensure FAI documentation is correctly correlated with:
Engineering drawings
- Digital/CAD models
- GD&T requirements
- Engineering specifications
- Configuration baselines and revisions
- Identify and resolve discrepancies between drawings, models, specifications, and inspection results.
- Customer Coordination
Act as the primary point of contact for customers regarding FAI status, NCR closures, discrepancies, and product acceptance .
- Coordinate with customers to clarify FAI requirements and resolve technical/documentation issues.
- Manage customer RMAs/RMRAs, escapes, and discrepancy reports .
- Quality & Contract Review
Support contract and purchase order reviews, particularly with respect to customer-specific quality clauses and FAI requirements .
- Ensure customer-specific requirements are effectively communicated to relevant internal teams.
- Continuous Improvement
Drive improvements in FAI cycle time, documentation accuracy, completeness, and overall quality .
- Identify recurring FAI/NCR issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Inspection, and Supply Chain teams to improve first-time-right performance.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Diploma/Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Production Engineering, Quality Engineering , or a related discipline.
- Relevant experience in the Aerospace industry, preferably aerospace machining/manufacturing.
- Strong practical knowledge and experience in FAI preparation and execution as per AS9102 .
- Good knowledge of AS9100 and AS9102 standards .
- Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, dimensional requirements, and specifications .
- Experience reviewing CMM/dimensional inspection reports, material certificates, special process certifications, and test reports .
- Ability to understand 3D digital models, drawing revisions, and configuration baselines .
- Experience handling NCRs, customer discrepancies, escapes, RMAs/RMRAs, and corrective actions .
- Strong customer-facing and written/verbal communication skills .
- Good analytical, problem-solving, coordination, and documentation skills.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with aerospace precision machining and manufactured components .
- Familiarity with customer-specific aerospace requirements and quality clauses.
- Experience working with ERP/QMS systems and digital FAI documentation tools .
- Knowledge of inspection methods and metrology is an added advantage.

Experience
Recommended: 3–8 years of relevant experience in Aerospace Quality / FAI, with machining experience .
