Responsibilities for Library Surveillance Security Guard

- Provide a visible security presence and patrol all floors during operational hours.

- Control access at library entrances, operate metal detection gates, and welcome visitors.

- Monitor security systems (CCTV, alarms, access control) and respond to incidents.

- Collaborate with library staff, Community Safety Hosts, and Crisis Workers to maintain a safe environment.

- Assist the public with information and directions in a professional manner.

- Follow opening/closing procedures, including securing doors, elevators, and rooms.

- Maintain visitor/contractor lists, logs, and reports of unusual occurrences

- Address incidents, provide first aid, and coordinate with emergency teams

- Write incident reports and communicate security concerns

- Answer questions in person or by phone

Qualifications for Library Surveillance Security Guard

- Be authorized to work in Canada

- Hold a valid Manitoba security license

- First aid certification an asset

- Exceptional customer service skills

- Proficient in basic phone & computer skills

- Strong customer service and communication skills (fluent in English).

- Skilled in conflict de-escalation, trauma-informed safety, anti-racism, and cultural awareness.

- Ability to remain calm and professional in emergencies.

- Physically and mentally fit for duties.

- Professional appearance and positive attitude
