Discover the Role

We are looking for a Data Product Owner to own and shape the end-to-end data strategy for our Accounting and Tax domain — defining the architecture, standards, and governance that ensure our financial data is accurate, traceable, and fit for purpose across regulatory and operational use.

As a senior individual contributor embedded in our Operations and Technology function, you will sit at the intersection of data architecture, finance operations, and technology. You will lead the design of data models across general ledger, subledgers, tax, and statutory reporting; own the data warehouse strategy in partnership with enterprise architects; and act as the primary steward for accounting and tax data quality, lineage, and governance.

This is a high-impact, cross-functional role. You will partner closely with Finance, Tax, IT, and Compliance to translate reporting and regulatory requirements into scalable, future-ready data solutions — and play a key role in evaluating emerging technologies including AI, automation, and cloud platforms for their relevance to our financial data estate.

Key Responsibilities

Data architecture & strategy

- Define the enterprise data architecture for the accounting and tax domain, covering data models, flows, integrations, and governance to ensure standardised capture and storage of data between client and TMF systems.
- Collaborate with enterprise architects to define the data warehouse strategy and supporting technology estate.
- Own the accounting and tax data strategy to ensure accuracy, consistency, traceability, and regulatory compliance across all systems.
- Assess emerging technologies — including AI, automation, tax engines, and cloud platforms — for their relevance to finance and tax data architecture.

Data modelling & standards

- Design canonical data models for core finance domains: general ledger, subledgers, fixed assets, revenue recognition, indirect tax, direct tax, and statutory reporting.
- Establish enterprise data standards and controls, including data definitions, validation rules, lineage tracking, and data quality thresholds.
- Oversee metadata management, including business glossaries, data dictionaries, and end-to-end lineage documentation.

Regulatory & compliance alignment

- Ensure all data architecture and modelling decisions are aligned with GAAP, IFRS, local statutory requirements, and tax authority regulations.
- Partner with Finance, Tax, and IT teams to translate reporting, compliance, and operational requirements into scalable, governed data solutions.
- Support system implementations and upgrades by defining data architecture requirements, validating design decisions, and ensuring data integrity throughout the delivery lifecycle.

Data quality & governance

- Drive data quality management through profiling, issue remediation, monitoring, and continuous improvement programmes.
- Guide governance forums on data ownership, stewardship, and decision-making for accounting and tax data.
- Enable advanced analytics and automation by ensuring data structures support forecasting models, tax provisioning, and audit analytics use cases.

Key Requirements

Essential experience

- 7+ years in data architecture, data product management, or a senior data engineering role within a finance, tax, or ERP-adjacent environment.
- Demonstrated experience designing canonical or enterprise data models for financial domains (GL, subledger, tax, revenue, statutory reporting).
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and/or IFRS reporting requirements and their implications for data architecture.
- Experience owning or significantly contributing to data warehouse strategy, including technology selection and platform design.
- Proven track record of driving data quality frameworks — profiling, lineage, validation rules, and quality metrics — at enterprise scale.
- Experience working in cross-functional environments, translating business and regulatory requirements into technical data solutions.

Technical skills

- Proficiency in data modelling methodologies (dimensional, relational, and conceptual modelling).
- Ability to read and interpret data models (entity-relationship diagrams, canonical schemas, JSON/XML structures) without needing to write them.
- Familiarity with Azure data platform concepts at a business level – understanding what a data lake, data warehouse, or data pipeline does without requiring hands-on technical skill.
- Experience with data cataloguing or governance tools for managing business glossaries and data dictionaries.
- Comfortable working with SQL for data validation and ad hoc analysis – not expected to write production code, but able to interrogate data to validate product outputs.

Preffered

- Hands-on experience with data governance tooling — metadata management, data catalogues, and business glossaries (e.g. Collibra, Alation, Informatica).
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms (e.g. Snowflake, Azure Synapse, Google BigQuery, AWS Redshift) and modern data stack principles.
- Understanding of ERP and finance systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle Financials, Workday Financials) and their data structures.
- Familiarity with tax technology platforms (e.g. Vertex, Sovos, Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE) is advantageous.
