Job Summary
The IT Infrastructure’s team focus is to support robust, highly available, and easy to use services for our internal customers across the global enterprise. Systems Engineer role applies function's principles, theories and all concepts of Systems administration, engineering to engineer, support and maintain global infrastructure services in our enterprise. The team is responsible for supporting back-end systems, used by all FAIans for daily business productivity using Enterprise Operations and Systems Management including: Systems Center Operations, System Center Configuration Management, MS-SQL Server, Microsoft DHCP, Operating systems (Windows, DOS, Solaris etc.) and Virtualization of desktops and terminal Servers for Cloud capacity, Heterogeneous Systems (Citrix: XenDesktop, XenApp, VMWare, Microsoft Servers), for internally developed tools, and a variety of Windows-based services applications.
Systems Engineer uses professional concepts and knowledge acquired through specialized training, or previous experience in Systems Engineering and Administration domain to monitor Systems in Command centre and ensuring smooth functioning of concerned systems. Develops and applies expertise of Systems Monitoring (virtual network systems and servers for smooth and secure data), Server knowledge, configuration, Maintenance and Vulnerability Management to ensure Server security; under supervision.
Competencies:
- Understands and meets stated needs & requirements of the stakeholders and internal teams wrt deliverables and produces work output under supervisory guidance to troubleshoot Systems, server Administration issues with team.
- Role requires monitoring, logging of incidents, assessing impact, understanding escalation matrix to divert issues to concerned stakeholders preemptively.
- Sound domain knowledge to improve work output for applications of command centre and understanding Virtual systems requirements
- Troubleshooting and creative problem-solving skills for Build, Patching, Monitoring and Administration of Heterogeneous Servers
- High learnability and adaption for staying up to date with market trends, technological upgrades to direct team into adopting best practices
- Takes initiative to develop own technical / behavioral skills required to develop configuration manuals ensuring following stipulated SLAs; demonstrates learning and team player attitude.
- Exercises judgement to Think on the feet for completion of deliverables, sensing preempt escalation.
- Displays excellent verbal and written communication skills required to interact with stakeholders, onshore counterparts, supervisors, team members to ensure escalations are notified timely and communication mailers regarding incidents or an upcoming shut down for maintenance activity are promptly escalated.
- Ensures Monitoring and liaisoning with cross-function (architecture, virtual systems) team to keep abreast of existing systems and infrastructure to ensure smooth functioning
- Ensures that systems monitoring requests are properly understood and attended to for preparing for maintenance cycle. Contributes new ideas and different perspectives
- Collaborates with team to enable a positive health of Systems and server infrastructure.
- Follows Communication protocols for informing clients on incidents or resolution and contributes towards viewing and preparing configuration requirements of systems
Technical Skills:
- Demonstrates basic knowledge and technical Know-how of Systems Management, Administration, Monitoring, Vulnerability management, server knowledge for Enterprise Operations including: Systems Center Operations, MS-SQL Server, Microsoft DHCP, Operating systems (Windows, DOS, Solaris etc.) and System management tools like Altiris and SCCM
- Fundamental understanding about existing network, storage and overall IT infrastructure
- Should have basic foundational knowledge of latest market trends, updates, Product upgrades and systems specifications pertaining to Systems and Servers for Virtual desktops and Enterprise applications (AN and LAN switching and routing, ARP, HTTP, SMTP, DNS and other related internet protocols- TCP/ IP protocol stack)
- Should possess and practice fundamental knowledge of heterogeneous systems/servers in FAI (Unix, Solaris, Windows etc.)
- Possess foundational knowledge on Windows active directory, virtualization of desktops and servers, TFA/VPN/RSA security
- Possess fundamental experience in system and hypervisor monitoring tools like SCOM/MS system/Control M/AppDynamics/HP BAC/Riht Fax/Service First to log incidents, assess impacts and proactively troubleshooting
- Possess Server configuration and Maintenance knowledge to proactively manage and maintain server and firewall systems, Build and deploy new servers on the network as needed
- Maintain protocols for existing server infrastructure in an effective and time bound manner; notifies to supervisors for subsequent action before maintenance activities to prevent shutdown
- Preparing clear, accurate, and informative statistical and narrative reports and communications containing findings, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations
- Follows escalation points and Reporting protocols (emails, group mailers, closing incident request) in case incident is beyond one’s capabilities and scope
- Follows stipulated SLA's to resolve service requests and incidents in an effective and time bound manner
- Should be able to establish needs of users and monitor user access and security to control privileges and permissions to users for Vulnerability management
- Possess basic knowledge on stakeholder management and adheres to Communication protocols for stakeholder groups.
Educational Qualification and Experience:
Minimum of 1-4 years of formal education - Graduate / Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science / Information Technology/engineering or related area of study
Professional work experience of 1-4 years in Systems Engineering/ Administration for Enterprise operations and Virtual systems (preferable) in Microsoft Technologies environment.
