Maine State Credit Union is seeking an Accounting Specialist I who thrives on accuracy, analysis, and accountability. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys digging into transactions, researching exceptions, reconciling accounts, and ensuring the integrity of financial records.
This is not primarily an Accounts Payable role. While occasional AP support is required, the majority of this position focuses on general ledger reconciliation, account balancing, financial reporting support, and daily accounting operations.
What You'll Do
✅ Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts daily and monthly
✅ Research and resolve outstanding reconciling items
✅ Analyze transaction activity and identify discrepancies
✅ Maintain complete and accurate supporting documentation
✅ Assist with monthly and quarterly financial reporting
✅ Collaborate with multiple departments to resolve accounting issues
✅ Cross-train and provide support across accounting functions
✅ Maintain and improve documented accounting procedures
What We're Looking For

- General ledger accounting
- Account reconciliations
- Financial transaction analysis
- Journal entries and balancing activities
- Month-end processes
- Financial reporting support
- Researching and resolving accounting discrepancies
- Maintaining detailed audit-ready documentation
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred
- 1-3 years of accounting experience
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- High level of professionalism and confidentiality

High-volume invoice entry
Processing payments without account ownership
Transaction routing and approval workflows only
Administrative AP support without reconciliation or GL responsibilities
We're specifically seeking candidates who have experience reconciling, balancing, researching, and owning accounting processes from start to finish.
The pay range for this position is $20/hour to $24/hour based on experience.
