Description of Responsibilities:

This position generally works four days per week, Monday through Thursday, from 6:30am to 4:30 or 5:00pm, for an average of a 9  to 10-hour day. Flexibility in schedule is occasionally needed in order to meet business goals and provide exceptional patient service.

As a member of the surgical team, the Surgical Scrub Technician work collaboratively with the Surgeon, Anesthesiologist, and the RN in the operating room ensuring safe quality patient care. The Surgical Scrub Technician will follow established Maine Eye Center protocols, procedures, and will perform various duties and tasks including, but not limited to, those listed below:

- Demonstrates knowledge regarding ocular surgery including ocular plastics.

- Ensure the patient is at the center of all work activities

- Practice vigilant aseptic consciousness

- Preparation of the Operating Room; opening sterile supplies, instruments,

- packs, assuring sterile technique is maintained

- During the surgical procedure, the scrub will anticipate the needs of the surgeon

- and assist as directed

- Assist the surgical team with patient care and positioning

- Decontaminate, process and sterilize surgical instrumentation

- Maintain surgical equipment

- Report and trouble shoot defective equipment and supplies

- Assist with restocking operating rooms

- Maintain preference card accuracy

- Attend in-services

- Communicate effectively with the surgical team, promoting a positive work environment

- Respect team members, demonstrating a welcoming and inclusive workplace

- Be accountable, dependable and follow MEC Core Values consistently

$22 – $26 per hour, depending on experience.

Experience and Educational Requirements:

High School Diploma/GED
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

As well as any one or more of the following:

- Completed a surgical Technologist program

- Completed a Certified Ophthalmic Technician program

- Completed a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant program

- Completed an MA or CNA program

- Possess field experience in Ophthalmic surgical procedures.

Required Licenses / Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS)

We are looking for a Surgical Technologist/Scrub Technician to join our Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). Whether your background is in surgical technology, ophthalmology, medical assisting, CNA work, ophthalmic surgery, or another area of healthcare.

Completed a Surgical Technologist program - CST

Completed a Certified Ophthalmic Technician program - COT

Completed a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant program - COA

Completed an Certified Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant program

Pay Range:

Scrub Tech I: $22.64 - $29.43 (0-4 Years Experience)

Scrub Tech II: $27.60 - $33.75 (5-10 Years Experience)

Scrub Tech III: $31.88 - $40.05 (10 + Years Experience)

Typical Physical Demands:

Ability to lift 20+ pounds.

Ability to stand for long periods of time; also stooping, bending, reaching, and lifting.
