We are seeking a full-time Optometrist to join our high-volume, subspecialty-driven practice in Portland, Maine. This position offers a unique combination of surgical co-management, urgent eye care, and the opportunity to build and manage your own patient panel. Youll work closely with our ophthalmologists and surgical teams while maintaining the autonomy of your own clinic.

Enjoy a 4.5-day workweek with no nights, no weekends, and no call!

The position includes a combination of:

- Mornings: Post-operative care in collaboration with our surgeons, managing recovery and outcomes for cataract and refractive surgery patients.

- 2–3 afternoons per week: Urgent/walk-in ophthalmic care, evaluating and managing acute eye concerns with support from our physician teams.

- 1–2 afternoons per week: Your own personal clinic, allowing you to build and manage a patient panel for comprehensive and medical optometric care.

What Youll Do

- Provide post-operative examinations and co-management for surgical patients in close collaboration with our ophthalmologists.

- Evaluate and manage urgent and walk-in ocular concerns, determining appropriate treatment or referral when needed.

- Build and maintain your own patient panel while providing comprehensive eye exams, contact lens fittings, and medical optometric care.

- Work collaboratively with ophthalmologists, technicians, and administrative teams to provide seamless, high-quality patient care.

- Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic health record.

- Provide personalized, attentive care while working successfully within a high-volume clinical environment.

- As our program develops, there may also be an opportunity to mentor an optometry resident as part of Maine Eyes future optometry residency/fellowship program.

Qualifications & Experience

- Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited school of optometry.

- Active, unrestricted Maine optometric license or eligibility to obtain licensure prior to your start date.

- Experience or a strong interest in surgical co-management and post-operative care preferred.

- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical environment.

- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with a multidisciplinary surgical team.

- New graduates with a strong interest in anterior segment and surgical co-management are encouraged to apply.
