Location: Green Cove Springs, FL

Job Type: Part-Time | Up to 29 hours per week

Pay Rate: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour

Position Overview

Challenge Enterprises of North Florida, Inc. is seeking a compassionate and dependable Life Skills Specialist to support adults with intellectual and developmental differences. In this role, you will help individuals build greater independence by teaching and reinforcing daily living, social, recreational, and community-based skills through person-centered support.

The Life Skills Specialist works directly with participants to identify meaningful goals, plan activities based on individual interests and choices, encourage healthy lifestyle habits, and promote community inclusion. This position also includes safe transportation, collaboration with families and community partners, behavioral support, and accurate daily documentation of goals and activities.

What Youll Do

Life Skills Development & Person-Centered Support

- Teach and reinforce daily living skills such as food preparation, housekeeping, personal hygiene, and social skills

- Support participants in developing greater independence through choice, inclusion, and self-direction

- Facilitate person-centered planning with individuals, families, Support Coordinators, residential providers, and community partners

- Support participant goals identified within individual support plans and approved program procedures

- Assess functional skill levels and provide consistent reinforcement, feedback, and learning opportunities

Community Inclusion & Activities

- Plan and participate in activities based on participant interests and personal goals

- Promote social integration and help participants build natural supports within the community

- Provide opportunities for participants to make choices and exercise greater control over their environment

- Provide supervision and support during community-based activities and program services

- Transport participants safely to scheduled locations using agency vehicles

Behavioral Support & Communication

- Provide appropriate behavioral intervention and support to strengthen successful interactions with peers, staff, and supervisors

- Maintain professional and consistent communication with supervisors, coworkers, families, and community partners

- Work cooperatively with the team to provide smooth, quality, person-centered services

- Report incidents promptly in accordance with approved agency procedures

Documentation & Program Responsibilities

- Document goal outcomes, participant choices, and daily activities using the approved electronic documentation system, including Therap

- Follow Life Skills Adult Day Training Program procedures, handbooks, and Florida Quality Assurance Standards

- Participate in new hire orientation, mandatory training, and staff meetings

- Follow all Challenge Enterprises policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, and professional standards

- Perform additional duties assigned to support program and agency needs

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent required

- At least 1 year of experience working with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities

- Valid Florida Drivers License with a clean 3-year driving record

- Must successfully complete required local and Level 2 background screening

- Must maintain CPR and First Aid certification

- Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

- Must be willing to sign and comply with confidentiality and Non-Disclosure requirements

Preferred

- College coursework in Human Services, Social Work, or a related field

- Knowledge of local community resources, activities, and supports

Physical Requirements

This position requires regular physical activity while supporting participants in program and community settings. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

- Ability to twist, stoop, bend, reach, pull, stand, and walk for up to six hours per day

- Ability to lift and transfer items weighing up to 50 pounds

- Ability to assist participants with getting on and off agency vans
