Structural Steel Quality Control Specialist
Location: Richmond, VA
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Shift: 1st Shift
Starting Pay: $31/hour — higher pay available based on experience
Position Overview
Seeking a Structural Steel Quality Control Specialist to inspect fabricated steel components and help maintain quality standards in an AISC-certified facility. Experienced senior structural steel fitters and fabricators with strong quality knowledge may also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

- Inspect structural steel components throughout the fabrication process.

- Conduct daily quality checks on completed and in-process work.

- Compare materials and fabricated components against shop drawings and project specifications.

- Perform dimensional layout inspections and verify proper part placement.

- Identify, document, and follow up on nonconforming work in accordance with AWS D1.1 and/or D1.5 requirements.

- Perform both in-process and final inspections.

- Work directly with production personnel to identify quality concerns and determine appropriate corrections.

- Assist with quality improvement efforts and initiatives.

- Support preparation for and participation in annual AISC QC audits .

- Maintain accurate inspection and quality documentation.

Qualifications

- 3–5 years of experience in structural steel layout and fabrication

- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and construction drawings

- Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes and quality standards

- Welding certification in AWS D1.1 and/or D1.5 preferred

- Senior-level structural steel fitting or fabrication experience may be considered in place of direct QC experience when accompanied by strong quality knowledge

- 1st Shift

- Saturday overtime available
