Structural Steel Plant Manager

Starting Salary: $80,000/year, higher depending on experience
Position Overview
Qualdoc is seeking a hands-on Plant Manager to lead structural steel production across two nearby facilities operating on two shifts. This role is responsible for coordinating production, safety, quality, maintenance, staffing, and shipping activities while leading supervisors and supporting continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate brings a strong structural steel fabrication background, experience with AISC and AWS standards, knowledge of steel coating requirements, and the ability to lead multiple production teams and complex projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct daily production activities across two facilities located within approximately one mile of each other.
- Lead operations across two shifts and provide guidance to department and shop supervisors.
- Oversee approximately 65 employees , with planned growth toward approximately 90 employees.
- Manage approximately 5–6 direct reports in supervisory roles.
- Maintain accountability for employee safety, facility conditions, equipment maintenance, production efficiency, and product quality.
- Coordinate fabrication schedules and ensure work is completed according to required shipping and delivery dates.
- Monitor workflows and identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, and operational efficiency.
- Support recruiting, employee retention, workforce development, and succession planning efforts.
- Participate in employee disciplinary actions and other personnel-related matters.
- Help identify potential operational issues before they affect production, quality, or delivery.
- Manage multiple fabrication projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Work closely with operations leadership and other departments to maintain smooth production flow.
- Perform other operational and leadership duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- 7+ years of structural steel fabrication experience
- 5+ years of leadership experience in fabrication, manufacturing, or production
- Extensive knowledge of AWS D1.1 ; CWI certification is preferred but not required
- Experience working in an AISC-certified shop or manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated experience managing large, heavy, and complex structural steel fabrication projects
- Working knowledge of SSPC and ASTM coating requirements
- Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication processes, workflows, and shop practices
- Knowledge of industry safety standards and practices
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to recognize potential production issues and improvement opportunities
- Hands-on leadership approach with the ability to work effectively with supervisors and production teams
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
