Lab Assistant (Part Time) - Department of Biological Sciences

JOB SUMMARY:
Performs routine technical tasks and simple laboratory procedures to support the work of technical and professional laboratory staff.

JOB DUTIES:
40% - Participate in general lab maintenance, including but not limited to: media preparation, maintenance and optimization of lab protocols, and other general lab tasks

60% - Independently conduct and coordinate laboratory experiments, including but not limited to: anaerobic microbial isolation, microbiological assays, media preparation, molecular methods (DNA extraction, PCR, sequencing), participation in lab meetings, maintenance of an up-to-date lab notebook, entering data, prepare / analyze / present data (such as at lab meetings, conferences, or for manuscripts)

Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and work experience in a related health care setting or in a clinical or research laboratory setting; or 12 semester hours of academic training in biology and/or chemistry; or registration as a Certified Laboratory Assistant by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or an equivalent registry; or successful completion of a formal program of instruction for laboratory assistants at a hospital or academic institution.

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL:
Normal Operations - Required to follow emergency facility closure and modified operations directives, and not normally expected to work on-site during emergency situations.
