Junior Java Cloud Engineer

The ideal candidate has 1-3 years building and operating software on AWS or Azure. We care much more about whether you have shipped and run a real cloud system than about which language you wrote it in. Our teams work primarily in Java, TypeScript and Go, and you will be productive in whichever one your squad uses — we expect you to learn a new language on the job, because that is now a normal part of the work.

How We Work

Every engineer here builds AI coding agents as a standard tool. That has changed what junior engineering is. The bottleneck is no longer how fast you can produce code, it is whether you can tell correct from plausible, whether you understand the system the code is landing in, and whether you can operate it once it is running. We hire and promote against that.

Practically, this means we weigh cloud fundamentals, debugging, and judgment far above syntax fluency in any particular language.

Responsibilities

- Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable services in the language your squad uses

- Use AWS or Azure APIs to build cloud-native solutions — infrastructure is part of the job, not a separate team

- Deploy, run, and monitor production systems; participate in triaging issues in systems you did not write

- Contribute and maintain automated unit and integration tests

- Use AI coding agents day to day, and take responsibility for reviewing and correcting what they produce

- Read and critique code — your own, your teammates’, and code generated for you

- Participate in the build and implementation of detailed architectural plans and tickets

- Participate in requirements reviews and other technical discussions

- Work as part of a highly collaborative agile team

- Attend client standups; clearly explain the status of your own work to a client audience

- Gain detailed knowledge and understanding of platforms, features, and dependencies

Requirements

Up and down the tech stack, this is a hands-on position that requires curiosity, initiative, and follow through. We are screening for demonstrated capability, not for a keyword list.

- Bachelor’s degree in Math, Computer Science, or another relevant degree or equivalent demonstrated experience

- 1-3 years building software professionally, including code you have shipped to production and then had to support

- You have personally deployed and operated a service in AWS or Azure, not just written code that someone else deployed

- Strong general-purpose programming ability in a statically typed or server-side language - Java, TypeScript, Go, C#, Kotlin, or similar. Depth in one is what matters; we do not require a specific one

- Working knowledge of SQL, and the ability to design a sensible relational data model. Exposure to NoSQL is a plus

- Comfort with containers and the build/deploy path — Docker, a CI pipeline, and infrastructure defined as code

- You can debug a running system: read logs and metrics, form a hypothesis, and prove it

- A strong understanding of design patterns, algorithmic concepts, and software engineering best practices

- You use AI coding tools and can talk concretely about where they helped and where they were wrong

- You can complete a well-defined task without step-by-step supervision, and raise a blocker before the deadline rather than at it

- You can hold a professional conversation with a client about your own work
