About this role
About Bracket Bot
Bracket Bot is building the affordable robot platform developers have been waiting for.
Useful robots are still too expensive, too closed, too hard to program, and too slow to deploy. We think that changes when great robot hardware becomes cheap enough for developers, labs, startups, and customers to build on top of it the way they build on computers.
We are a small San Francisco team building low-cost, general-purpose robots that developers can program and deploy in days. The work is physical, technical, and immediate: robots in the office, supplier and production decisions every week, early customers and partners, a growing developer ecosystem, and a company that needs to move much faster than its size.
Our goal is to build the platform company that helps robotics have its app-store moment.
The Mandate
Make the company move faster without adding process theater.
This is a founder-leverage role, not an executive assistant role and not a slide-deck strategy role. You will work directly with the CEO on the highest-leverage problems in the company, then turn them into decisions, written plans, closed loops, shipped projects, and operating systems the team actually uses.
At Bracket Bot, that might mean driving a hiring push in the morning, chasing down an unclear supplier issue before lunch, turning a messy launch idea into an owner-by-owner plan in the afternoon, and writing the investor or customer update that makes the whole company legible by the end of the day.
The best person for this role will like the full mess of an early hardware company: product, people, money, vendors, customers, robots, documents, follow-through, and urgency.
Role At A Glance
- Reports to: Founder / CEO
- Location: San Francisco, in person
- Core job: Turn messy priorities into clear decisions and completed outcomes
- Scope: Hiring, production, suppliers, pilots, launch, investor updates, finance/admin, and company cadence
- Best fit: A high-ownership operator who writes clearly, learns quickly, and follows through relentlessly
What You Will Own
- Founder priorities: Convert ambiguous asks into decisions, meetings, memos, hires, customer follow-ups, vendor outcomes, or shipped projects.
- Company cadence: Build the weekly rhythm for priorities, blockers, owners, metrics, decision logs, and follow-through.
- Hiring and talent: Tighten roles, sourcing, referrals, candidate communication, work trials, interview loops, and Ashby hygiene.
- Production and operations follow-through: Keep supplier, logistics, procurement, finance, admin, office, and lightweight legal workflows moving.
- Customer, developer, and launch projects: Coordinate pilots, developer programs, hackathons, partner follow-ups, launch plans, and the communication around them.
- Strategic communication: Write crisp investor updates, board/advisor notes, customer follow-ups, internal briefs, hiring materials, and decision memos.
- Systems that stick: Turn scattered context into simple trackers, docs, dashboards, rituals, and workflows that make everyone faster.
First 90 Days
In your first 90 days, you should expect to:
- Build a weekly operating cadence that gives Brian and the team a clear view of the highest-priority work, owners, blockers, and decisions.
- Create a live map of the company's active workstreams across hiring, production, suppliers, pilots, launch, fundraising, and internal operations.
- Clean up the Chief of Staff hiring process itself: role copy, candidate funnel, interview loop, work trial, and follow-up system.
- Own two or three cross-functional projects from vague problem to finished outcome.
- Establish lightweight investor, customer, and internal update templates that make progress and blockers obvious.
- Learn enough about the robot, the customers, the suppliers, and the team to become a trusted second brain for the company.
What Will Make You Great
- You have unusually high ownership. If something matters and nobody owns it, you grab it.
- You write clearly. You can make a confusing situation obvious in a page, Slack message, hiring note, board update, or decision memo.
- You like operating close to the physical world. You do not need to be a roboticist, but you should want to understand enough hardware, software, suppliers, customers, and field reality to be useful.
- You move quickly without getting sloppy. You know when a detail matters and when the team just needs a decision.
- You can work across altitude: fundraising narrative, hiring strategy, vendor follow-up, calendar pressure, messy spreadsheets, and the annoying details that make real companies work.
- You protect founder and team time without becoming a gatekeeper.
- You have low ego. Strategy, writing, coordination, ops cleanup, and urgent "someone has to make this happen" work are all part of the job.
This May Not Be A Fit If
- You want a narrow strategy role with clean boundaries.
- You need mature company systems before you can be effective.
- You dislike following through on small operational details.
- You want to stay far from customers, candidates, suppliers, finances, or the physical reality of the product.
- You think process is the goal. The goal is better decisions, faster execution, and fewer dropped balls.
Why This Is Rare
Robotics companies usually fail because the full system is too hard: hardware, software, autonomy, manufacturing, customers, capital, and operations all have to work at once.
Bracket Bot is trying to make that system dramatically simpler and cheaper, then open it up to developers. If we are right, the important thing is not one robot. It is millions of people being able to build useful robotics applications without first spending years building hardware from scratch.
As Founding Chief of Staff, you will sit at the center of that transition from technical team to real company. If you do the job well, Bracket Bot will hire better, ship faster, communicate more clearly, unblock customers sooner, and give the founder and engineering team dramatically more leverage.
This is a role for someone who wants to be close to the whole machine and make it work.
Compensation And How To Apply
Competitive cash and meaningful equity for an early founding role. We will tailor the package to the candidate.
Send us a short note and evidence of work you are proud of. The best signal is a real example where you took something ambiguous, messy, or cross-functional and made it happen.
Bracket Bot is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds who are excited to help build the operating system for a real-world robotics company.
